This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

The battle for seventh place and potential Europa League football sees Watford host Wolves at Vicarage Road, with the victor set to surge ahead as favourites to finish as ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace are looking to build on their victory over Arsenal last time out as they welcome Everton to Selhurst Park, while a big day in the relegation battle sees Cardiff City travel to Fulham – with Brighton and Hove Albion taking on Newcastle United in the day’s late game. Southampton meanwhile take on fellow south coast side Bournemouth. Follow the live action below.

Premier League fixtures

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

Crystal Palace vs Everton – 3pm

Fulham vs Cardiff City – 3pm

Southampton vs Bournemouth – 3pm

Watford vs Wolves – 3pm

Brighton vs Newcastle United – 5:30pm

Fulham 0-0 Cardiff, 7 minutes

Victor Camarasa delivers nicely into the Fulham box but there isn't a teammate there to meet his cross.

GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Bournemouth (Shane Long, 12 minutes)

Not quite seven seconds, but fast enough!

Shane Long scores again for Southampton.

Nathan Redmond is surely surging back into England contention with his recent run of form, and he's the architect again, setting up Long with a low ball across that is very calmly placed past Artur Boruc to give Southampton the lead.

It didn't take him too Long...

Harry Latham-Coyle27 April 2019 15:18

GOAL! Southampton 1-1 Bournemouth (Dan Gosling, 20 minutes)

But Bournemouth are soon level!

Good football from Eddie Howe's men in response to falling behind, moving the ball efficiently in a quick counter-attack that leaves the Southampton defence lunging at shadows, Callum Wilson finding Dan Gosling who provides the finishing touches.

All square.

Fulham 0-0 Cardiff, 20 minutes

A nasty incident at Craven Cottage, Denis Odoi taking a boot to the head from teammate Maxime Le Marchand, and he may have to come off.

A worry for Scott Parker.

Southampton 1-1 Bournemouth, 24 minutes

How has he missed? That might be miss of the season! It's Shane Long!

On the rebound, mere yards from goal, goalkeeper nowhere, against the post, somehow...

Harry Latham-Coyle27 April 2019 15:25

Fulham 0-0 Cardiff, 25 minutes

Denis Odoi is still down at Craven Cottage. Very worrying.

The stretcher is coming on. It doesn't look good for the Belgian.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 April 2019 15:26

Dan Gosling levelled things up at St Mary's after a lovely flowing Bournemouth counter-attack.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 April 2019 15:28

Fulham 0-0 Cardiff, 28 minutes

Finally Denis Odoi is removed from the field of play. Best wishes to him - it looks a bad one.

Cyrus Christie replaces him.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 April 2019 15:28

GOAL! Southampton 1-2 Bournemouth (Callum Wilson, 32 minutes)

Bournemouth lead!

A corner is cleared to David Brooks who fires between the legs, forcing Angus Gunn into a smart save, but the ball rebounds to Callum Wilson, who shows Shane Long how to do it with a quick finish to put Bournemouth ahead.
