From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A handball appeal, and it nearly squirms in!
Isaac Hayden flicks on at the near post, it may strike a Brighton arm at very close range, and the ball squirts towards the corner, enough Brighton bodies alive and alert to sweep the trickling ball away.
53 minutes
Getting a bit closer, Brighton.
Solly March has added some creativity, cutting inside the full-back and curling on to Glenn Murray's head.
Murray heads wide.
55 minutes
Though Newcastle look able to carve them up defensively if they want to.
Christian Atsu is the one injecting energy, floating behind Salomon Rondon and drawing defenders out.
That opens space for Jonjo Shelvey to find Isaac Hayden, perhaps not the man to latch on in such a situation, who wins a corner.
57 minutes
Chris Hughton is furious. Shane Duffy thumps the floor.
Their attack play the ball all-around the edge of the box but refuse to put the ball into the mixer.
59 minutes
Olé!
Fabian Schar plays a one-two over the head of a Brighton player inside his own box. Jaunty.
That's more traditional defending from the Swiss centre-back, getting his frame in the path of Solly March's optimistic drive.
60 minutes
Nearly!
Martin Dubravka gasps as he misjudges a cross, absolutely nowhere as the ball floats over him.
Shane Duffy is normally adept in such situations but miscues his header, ruffling only the side netting with goal rather agape.
62 minutes
Glenn Murray spinning in behind...
It just looked wrong, seeing the veteran running into so much space. Offside.
Or was he? It's tight on the replay. Maybe just off.
64 minutes
Solly March looks Brighton's most likely route to a goal from open play, and his cross just evades a teammate's flick, settling into Martin Dubravka's grasp.
Anthony Knockaert is another creative threat, and Chris Hughton is giving the Frenchman his final instructions...
66 minutes
Here we go.
Knockaert for Jose Izquierdo, another in the home side's starting lineup who hasn't offered enough.
