From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The battle for seventh place and potential Europa League football sees Watford host Wolves at Vicarage Road, with the victor set to surge ahead as favourites to finish as ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace are looking to build on their victory over Arsenal last time out as they welcome Everton to Selhurst Park, while a big day in the relegation battle sees Cardiff City travel to Fulham – with Brighton and Hove Albion taking on Newcastle United in the day’s late game. Southampton meanwhile take on fellow south coast side Bournemouth. Follow the live action below.
Premier League fixtures
Tottenham 0-1 West Ham
Crystal Palace vs Everton – 3pm
Fulham vs Cardiff City – 3pm
Southampton vs Bournemouth – 3pm
Watford vs Wolves – 3pm
Brighton vs Newcastle United – 5:30pm
Plenty on Chris Hughton's mind with his former side leading his current crop. They haven't got going yet, Brighton.
29 minutes
Brighton's formation switch hasn't really worked.
The fact that they have two up top means the midfield are reluctant to join their striking duo, fearful of a Newcastle counter-attack, which means that when they are able to get the ball forward the movements are under-resourced.
Glenn Murray and Florin Andone have yet to combine effectively.
31 minutes
Newcastle are readying Kenedy, presumably for the stricken Ayoze Perez.
The Brazilian is taking an absolute age to tie his boots, and a potential stoppage in which to introduce him is missed.
33 minutes
Finally.
Kenedy is eventually ready.
Perez it is, limping, but not in complete anguish, perhaps glad to be put out of his misery. He's produced the big moment of the game so far, though.
35 minutes
Better football from Brighton, negotiating themselves from a predicament in the right corner, but immediately giving the ball away again when space seems to open.
36 minutes
Newcastle nearly cut Brighton open again.
Fabian Schar again fancies a gallivant, another interchange with Christian Atsu allowing him to stumble and bumble into the box and further, his final touch just too heavy, allowing Mathew Ryan to gratefully collect.
Ryan is furious with his defence, and lets them know about it.
39 minutes
Eesh.
Matt Ritchie has crunched into Florin Andone.
Lucky not to be booked. Mistimed and a little high.
Another chance for Brighton to launch a cross into the box from deep.
40 minutes
Nope. Another poor one. They haven't got their delivery right at all.
42 minutes
Brighton have really failed to access wide areas in open play, perhaps unsurprisingly given how Newcastle have set up.
Their tactics just haven't worked at all. They've two strikers doing very little against three centre-halves, two central midfielders only matching man-for-man and two widemen marked by wing-backs.
Something has to change.
