Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

GOAL! Stoke 1-1 Leicester (Shaqiri)
39' - That really is against the run of play.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting comes up with a lovely first-time pass to send Xherdan Shaqiri in on goal. The Swiss steadies himself before curling the ball in off Kasper Schmeichel's far post. Superb finish.
41' - Mame Biram Diouf almost scores an incredible own-goal but he's relieved to see his clearance from Shinji Okazaki's cross loop just over Jack Butland's crossbar.
45' - Four minutes of additional time to come at the end of this first half.
Half-time - Substitute ref Jon Moss brings an end to the first half at the bet365 with the game level at 1-1.
47' - Joe Allen has the first shot of the second half but his effort deflects off Christian Fuchs and into the grateful arms of Kasper Schmeichel.
49' - Thunderous effort. Riyad Mahrez tries his luck from all of 30 yards and Jack Butland is forced to tip the dipping ball over the crossbar.
Just moments earlier Jamie Vardy slipped past Kurt Zouma in the Stoke penalty area before delivering a cross that was just slightly too high for Shinji Okazaki at the far post.
