Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. There are huge games at the top and bottom of the Premier League table today, as Crystal Palace host Newcastle before top-four chasing Tottenham travel to Liverpool.
Andros Townsend will come up against his former team in the early kick-off, as Palace look to get back to winning ways against relegation rivals Newcastle. Both sides could move up to 11th with a win, but the losers will be left looking nervously over their shoulders at the bottom three.
And then the big one: Liverpool vs Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his men can build on their incredibly impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United earlier in the week. Meanwhile Liverpool are out for revenge – they lost the reverse fixture at Wembley 4-1. A win will keep the Reds in third and cut United’s lead in second to just three points.

To say that game was short on quality would be a massive understatement, here's hoping for something much better this afternoon!
Both teams are desperate
Roy Hodgson says that both teams will be dreaming of winning this afternoon and suggests that the luckier team could scrape all three points.
“They’re an organised team. They know what they’re doing, and we like to think we are too. Both teams are desperate to get points from the game. Each team goes to bed on Saturday night dreaming of the three points which will lift us into a safer position in the league but it’s all about what we can do on the day of the game. We prepare as well as we can and hope if there’s any luck going, that it goes our way.”

No more distractions
Newcastle's players are fully concentrated on winning after the distractions which the transfer window can bring, according to Rafa Benitez.
“The first message I gave to the players after the transfer window was, ‘Listen, this is the group of players that have to fight for every point until the end of the season.’ From now, there are no distractions, and everybody has to be sure they are ready. The players, the team, they have to just concentrate on that, because some of them were maybe thinking, ‘I could go here, I could go there.’ Now, everybody’s here, and everybody has to give their best."
