From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Capoue begins an attack for Watford, but after a promising run, he tries to find but Deeney but it's a poor through ball by a man of such ability.

15 MINS

There is almost a moment of magic from Imbula, as he picks the ball up in the middle of the park, creates himself space and drives a strike at goal. It's a fantastic effort from distance, but it flies just wide. That will be a wake up call for Watford.

17 MINS

Stoke have had seven attempts so far, in comparison to a rather drab single effort from Watford.

Kaboul is on the floor receiving treatment and it looks although this could be the end of the game for him.

He was a doubt in the build up this game with a calf injury and it looks although this is a recurrence of this.

Pereyra goes for a goal, following a promising Watford attack. It's not a strike that tests Grant, but it's a sign of positivity for the home side. The Argentine is always threatening in possession and appears as a catalyst for success for his side.

Tempers are beginning to flare at Vicarage Road and a rivalry is starting to appear between Capoue and Martins Indi.

The Dutchman picks up two free kicks in as many minutes.

GOAL

WATFORD 0 - 1 STOKE CITY

Shaqiri delivers a corner into the box and it meets the head of an unmarked, Adam. Stoke's hard work has paid off and they get the goal that they deserve. The header bounces off the post and hits Gomes and rebounds into the net.

It's not the classiest goal, but it's a goal. Watford need an injection of energy and determination if they want to get anything from this fixture.

Holebas delivers a throw into box that meets Pereyra, but the strike from the Argentine is blocked by Diouf. No real threat for the visitors.

The Hornets are sitting incredibly deep today defensively, which is making this a walk in the park for Hughes's men.
