From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli both start for Spurs despite returning from their post-World Cup holiday at the start of the week, with the Magpies have summer signing Kennedy back in their ranks after joining for a second season-long loan.
With Jose Mourinho’s side securing an early victory in the form of a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night, Spurs have an early chance to get off the mark as they travel north for the weekend’s early kick-off.
The match is the first of six games on Saturday, with Chelsea also in action as they take on Huddersfield Town at 3pm. The rest of the action sees Bournemouth face Cardiff City, Fulham host Crystal Palace and Watford entertain Brighton and Hove Albion, before Wolves and Everton face-off in the day’s late game.

80 mins: Dele OFF, Son ON for Spurs, whilst it's a Premier League debut for Muto who replaces Perez
82 mins: Into the last ten minutes here, and Rondon hasn't managed to have much of an impact. A corner a couple of seconds ago was almost uncontested as Lloris punched clear, and you feel Newcastle may be running out of time
84 mins: A half chance for Newcastle, but Atsu threads the ball through to Rondon too early as the striker is caught between pulling to the left or right. Rondon will need a couple of games to gel with his new teammates.
As I write that, he hits the post! Shelvey with a brilliant ball forward, Rondon shoots it takes a deflection and strikes the crossbar. Spurs breathe again
88 mins: Harry Kane was almost replaced by Llorente, but instead Dier is down stretching possibly with some cramp, and Pochettino chooses to bring on Amos instead for the closing moments
90 mins: Yedlin down for Newcastle, clutching his knee after falling awkwardly. Four minutes added time
94 mins: Diame picks up a yellow card for a foul on Kane, Newcastle now playing with 10 after Yedlin's injury
FULL TIME: Newcastle United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
An important victory for Spurs as they continue to recover from a World Cup that featured plenty of their players. Jan Vertonghen with the scrappy opener, Joselu equalised for Newcastle, before Dele got the winner in a frantic first half. Chances for both sides in the second, with Newcastle striking the bar twice, and a late injury scare for DeAndre Yedlin, as the Magpies ended the game with 10 men.
Game one is over, and positive signs for both sides - Spurs picking up an important win as they recover from World Cup exploits, but Newcastle put up a good fight and will feel unlucky to end up with nothing from the game.
