Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Newcastle United host Tottenham Hotspur in the first Premier League weekend of the season as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to join Manchester United at the top of the table.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli both start for Spurs despite returning from their post-World Cup holiday at the start of the week, with the Magpies have summer signing Kennedy back in their ranks after joining for a second season-long loan.

With Jose Mourinho’s side securing an early victory in the form of a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night, Spurs have an early chance to get off the mark as they travel north for the weekend’s early kick-off.

The match is the first of six games on Saturday, with Chelsea also in action as they take on Huddersfield Town at 3pm. The rest of the action sees Bournemouth face Cardiff City, Fulham host Crystal Palace and Watford entertain Brighton and Hove Albion, before Wolves and Everton face-off in the day’s late game.

47 mins: POST! Mo Diame powers a shot that cannons into the post! This second half starting just as frantically as the first.

50 mins: It should be a second for Dele. Eriksen floats a ball in comes to Harry Kane and his shot is diverted into the path of Dele, who can only hand it to Dubravka

At the other end Kenedy somehow has the left side of the half to himself, with only Lloris to beat, his poor first touch squanders an opportunity for Newcastle to equalise.

Wow, you can't take your eyes off this one

56 mins: SAVE! Dubravka with a good save from close range to deny a powerful shot from Sissoko. Tottenham just beginning to build up a head of steam in this second half.

72 mins: As the subs settle in to this one, we have a brief lull in play. Newcastle need Rondon to put his stamp on this game, but hasn't had much service so far

76 mins: Shelvey at his very best there. Picked out an inch perfect cross field pass for Yedlin, and Lloris flew out of his goal to block it and clear his lines. There is room for Newcastle if they can get the ball out wide
