From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A tepid Manchester United dented their hopes of catching up with the Premier League's top four after failing to spark in a dour 0-0 home draw with 15th-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The result left United in seventh place on 21 points from 13 games, 14 adrift of leaders Manchester City and six behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who were hosting third-placed Chelsea in the 1730 GMT kick-off.
Striker Romelu Lukaku returned to United's starting line-up after being dropped in four previous games in all competitions but he looked rusty and the home side were fortunate to scrape a share of the spoils against the more adventurous visitors.
Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Van Aanholt came close for Palace in the opening half and Cheikhou Kouyate had a goal correctly disallowed for marginal offside, while keeper Wayne Hennessey denied Jesse Lingard at the other end.
Lukaku also had a goal scrapped for fractional offside in the 57th minute before Andros Townsend spurned a gilt-edged chance for Palace when he shot wide from 10 metres after a good solo run.
Having introduced Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez in the second half, United manager Jose Mourinho finished the match with all his forwards on the pitch but the home side failed to carve out any supply routes in the closing stages.

Player to watch…
Anthony Martial: The Frenchman pulled out of international duty with an abductor injury, but has been in excellent form of late. The 22-year-old has scored three goals in four games, including the penalty in United’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City. United’s best attacking work against City came through Martial, and while he wasn’t at his efficient best he will no doubt be a threat to the Palace defence.

Back on level terms at Craven Cottage
Aleksandar Mitrovic finishes off an excellent move from the home team, heading in Maxime Le Marchand's cross.
GOAL! West Ham 0-3 Manchester City (Leroy Sane, 32 minutes)
Three for Manchester City as Leroy Sane gets on the scoresheet.
Just half an hour gone but the away side have a now surely insurmountable lead after Raheem Sterling once again finds a cross and picks out the German, who turns cleverly to notch the third.
A goal and two assists thus far for Raheem Sterling. Impressive.
Watford 0-0 Liverpool, 42 minutes
Not much action to speak of at Vicarage Road through the first 40 minutes, though it has livened in the last few.
Mohamed Salah's header is superbly saved by Ben Foster after the Watford goalkeeper also did well to keep out Sadio Mane's volley.
GOAL! Fulham 2-1 Southampton (Andre Schurrle, 43 minutes)
Magnificent stuff from Ryan Sessegnon, twisting past Cedric Soares on the left wing and crossing well to find Andre Schurrle.
The German isn't going to miss a chance as good as that. Fulham lead in Claudio Ranieri's first game.
Manchester United 0-0 Crystal Palace, 42 minutes
Crystal Palace think they've found an opener at Old Trafford as it appears Victor Lindelof has turned one into his own net, but Cheikou Kouyate is flagged offside.
HALF TIME SCORES Brighton 1-0 Leicester
Everton 0-0 Cardiff
Fulham 2-1 Southampton
Manchester United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Watford 0-0 Liverpool
West Ham 0-3 Manchester City
Scoreless in three games through the first 45 minutes, though at both Old Trafford and Vicarage Road goals have been ruled out for offside.
Glenn Murray's first career goal against Leicester gives Brighton a 1-0 lead, while the visitors are down to ten-men after James Maddison received his second caution after diving trying to win a penalty.
Fulham have turned things around after going behind against Southampton in Claudio Ranieri's first game as manager.
And at the London Stadium, Manchester City have had little trouble dispatching an open West Ham with Raheem Sterling (one goal, two assists) inspiring the table-toppers to a convincing lead.
