From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A tepid Manchester United dented their hopes of catching up with the Premier League's top four after failing to spark in a dour 0-0 home draw with 15th-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The result left United in seventh place on 21 points from 13 games, 14 adrift of leaders Manchester City and six behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who were hosting third-placed Chelsea in the 1730 GMT kick-off.
Striker Romelu Lukaku returned to United's starting line-up after being dropped in four previous games in all competitions but he looked rusty and the home side were fortunate to scrape a share of the spoils against the more adventurous visitors.
Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Van Aanholt came close for Palace in the opening half and Cheikhou Kouyate had a goal correctly disallowed for marginal offside, while keeper Wayne Hennessey denied Jesse Lingard at the other end.
Lukaku also had a goal scrapped for fractional offside in the 57th minute before Andros Townsend spurned a gilt-edged chance for Palace when he shot wide from 10 metres after a good solo run.
Having introduced Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez in the second half, United manager Jose Mourinho finished the match with all his forwards on the pitch but the home side failed to carve out any supply routes in the closing stages.

Player to watch…
Anthony Martial: The Frenchman pulled out of international duty with an abductor injury, but has been in excellent form of late. The 22-year-old has scored three goals in four games, including the penalty in United’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City. United’s best attacking work against City came through Martial, and while he wasn’t at his efficient best he will no doubt be a threat to the Palace defence.

GOAL! West Ham 0-1 Manchester City (David Silva, 11 minutes)
He can't stop scoring!
An eighth of the season for David Silva. Some questionable defending from West Ham allows Raheem Sterling to find the Spanish midfielder, who does the rest to give Manchester City the early lead.
It could be a long afternoon for the home fans...
GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Leicester (Glenn Murray, 15 minutes)
Neither can he!
A first goal against Leicester for Glenn Murray. The veteran striker glances home Anthony Knockaert's whipped corner and Brighton lead.
Gerard Deulofeu had an early goal ruled out after straying offside.
GOAL! Fulham 0-1 Southampton (Stuart Armstrong, 18 minutes)
A poor start for Claudio Ranieri, and more defensive woes for Fulham.
No clean sheets in the league this season, and they again fail to adequately clear a ball allowing Stuart Armstrong to power home.
GOAL! West Ham 0-2 Manchester City (Raheem Sterling, 19 minutes)
This could be plenty.
Leroy Sane works space to the byline for the cross and finds Raheem Sterling to tap in Manchester City's second at the London Stadium.
West Ham 0-2 Manchester City, 21 minutes
West Ham respond well to the second.
Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic both have chances batted away by Ederson.
David Silva put Manchester City 1-0 ahead at the London Stadium.
Glenn Murray glanced home his first career goal against Leicester to continue his excellent goalscoring form.
Manchester United 0-0 Crystal Palace, 28 minutes
Chances at both ends at Old Trafford!
First Patrick Van Aanholt squanders a wonderful opening for the visitors, before Chris Smalling heads wide.
No goals as of yet.
RED CARD! James Maddison is sent off! Brighton 1-0 Leicester, 28 minutes
James Maddison goes down in the penalty area...
And he's off! A second booking, this one for simulation, and Leicester's problems deepen.
He'd only just received his first yellow for bringing Anthony Knockaert to floor. Trouble for Claude Puel's side, down a goal and now down a man.
