Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Liverpool take on Southampton this Saturday at Anfield with both teams in need of a result for different reasons.
Jurgen Klopp's side arrive in form having won all three games since that 4-1 humbling by Tottenham at Wembley, scoring 10 goals in the process, and are desperate to keep up the pressure on the top four.
The Saints have picked up only one point from their past two games but Mauricio Pellegrino is confident he can bring an upturn in results and Anfield would be as good a place as any to make a statement of intent.
Sadio Mane returned to training this week and is expected to be available for Liverpool following a minor injury on international duty, while Klopp is expected to be on the touchline despite being unwell this week.

What time does it start?
The game kicks off at the Anfield at 3pm on Saturday 18 November.
Where can I watch it?
The game won't be broadcast on British television. Follow the action in our live blog above.
It’s a big game for…
Jurgen Klopp. The manager was taken to hospital this week but returned to oversee training and is expected to be pitchside for the match. Liverpool were on something of a roll and the international break therefore came at an inconvenient moment. With Tottenham meeting Arsenal in the early kick-off Liverpool have the chance to haul themselves in amongst the chasing pack behind Manchester City. Klopp's side cannot afford anything less than three points.
Remember when…
Southampton last beat Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League? In 2013 the future Reds defender Dejan Lovren scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 away victory for the Saints.
Player to watch…
Mohamed Salah. With 13 goals in his opening 19 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, the Egyptian forward has already shown himself to be a canny purchase by the Anfield hierarchy. His recent form, with six goals in his past five games, makes him the man to stop.
Past three meetings…
Liverpool 0 Southampton 0, Premier League, May 2017
Liverpool 0 Southampton 1, League Cup, January 2017
Southampton 1 Liverpool 0, League Cup, January 2017

Southampton to win: 13/2
31 mins: GOAL! BOURNEMOUTH 2 HUDDERSFIELD 0:
Two for Callum Wilson, two for Bournemouth! The injury-plagued striker hadn't netted in the Premier League since January, but now has his second within five minutes after cleverly turning in Andrew Suman's free-kick.
35 mins: GOAL! CRYSTAL PALACE 2 EVERTON 1:
Crystal Palace regain the lead at Selhurst Park. Back in the team after injury, Wilfried Zaha is making up for lost time, poking home Joel Ward's excellent low cross past a helpless Jordan Pickford.
38 mins: GOAL! WEST BROM 0 CHELSEA 3:
Chelsea are running riot at the Hawthorns where Marcos Alonso has bagged their third of the afternoon. The defender was in the right place to volley home Cesc Fabregas's free-kick from an acute angle at the far post.
40 mins: GOAL! BURNLEY 2 SWANSEA 0:
Ashley Barnes blasts Burnley's second! The forward showed great technique to take Jeff Hendrick's pass in his path and thump a shot past Lukasz Fabianski from 20 yards out.
41 mins: GOAL! LIVERPOOL 2 SOUTHAMPTON 0:
He's done it again! Mohamed Salah has his second of the afternoon, and it looked so simple. Playing on the shoulder of the last defender, he was on the move as soon as Philippe Coutinho clipped a delicate pass with the outside of his foot beyond the last line, and all the Egyptian had to do was knock his first-time shot past Fraser Forster.
45 mins: GOAL! CRYSTAL PALACE 2 EVERTON 2:
It's all square again at Selhurst Park! The home side needlessly gave away possession in their own half, and that was enough for Oumar Niasse to pounce and equalise with a shot past Julian Speroni.
45 mins: GOAL! LEICESTER 0 MAN CITY 1:
Scintillating football from the league leaders, and Gabriel Jesus has fired them ahead on the brink of half-time. Crisp one-touch passing in the build-up ended with David Silva centering for the young Brazilian forward, and he made no mistake in beating Kasper Schmeichel.
