Maurizio Sarri on Kepa Arrizabalaga: he has 'served his time'

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Chelsea were 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage in a game where all the goals came in the first half.

Gonzalo Higuain gave the visitors a 20th minute lead, which was cancelled out eight minutes later by Calum Chambers.

However, Jorginho’s 31st minute goal won it for the visitors – but there was late drama as Kepa Arrizabalaga saved an Aleksandar Mitrovic header, before Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon saw a late effort disallowed.

The win takes Maurizio Sarri’s side to within two points of the top four.

A win with their game in hand, against Brighton, will lift them above fourth placed Man United.

10 min: Everton 0-0 Liverpool

"That touch by Salah was like mine" says Gary Neville on Sky Sports commentary.

It is a heavy one from the Egyptian, showing that the pressure can affect even the very best.

Good tempo to the game so far though, and the hosts have certainly started the quicker.

15 min: Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool fans have taken the sting out of the game well in the last few minutes and the likes of Henderson and Salah have started to gain more of a grasp on the game.

The latter has Liverpool's first effort on tagrte, but Pickford claims with ease.

20 min: Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Everton are the club that has conceded the most goals from set pieces this season in the league.

Liverpool will fancy their chances of making it 14 for Everton, but the hosts deal with the situation on this occasion.

It's all calmed down a bit here after the frantic start.

23 min: Everton 0-0 Liverpool

It's not been the best start for Theo Walcott. He's the only player in the book so far and is easily nudged out of the way by Origi and is giving little help to Seamus Coleman so far.

The former Arsenal man needs to raise his game.

Up in arms. And no it isn't Jurgen Klopp for once

It started as a feverish derby, but it has mellowed quite a bit in the last few minutes, not that the crowd would let you know that though.

Everton are looking to arrest some control back, but it is all a bit scrappy at the moment.

THAT IS A HUGE CHANCE!

Salah is put clear on the right and looks odds on to beat Pickford, but he has almost too much time and the England no.1 does exceptionally well to make himself big and save low.

The rebound falls to Henderson but Everton get men back and they block his shot before clearing.

The most significant moment so far, what Squakwa say is his 13th time missing a 'big chance'.

36 min: Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Gary Neville says Walcott and Bernard need to show more for the ball here as Everton are struggling in wide areas, and with the events of the last few minutes it is hard to argue with that.

Ten minutes to go until the break though and Marco Silva will be quietly content with what he has seen so far.

Half chance for Theo Walcott, who gets the better of Robertson initially but the Scot gets back in time to put the former Arsenal man off his shot and it goes well over.
