Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Champions League finalists Liverpool turn their attentions to domestic matters this afternoon as they travel to Chelsea in an attempt to secure their place in Europe’s top competition for another season.

A win for Chelsea will see them draw level on points with the Reds going into the final two games of the season, and they will back themselves to hunt Jurgen Klopp’s side down with their not-so-little distraction in the form of Real Madrid in Kiev.

Mohamed Salah is gunning for a record goal tally in a Premier League season having already scored 31, but is Chelsea’s defence up to the challenge?

Half Time

Arsenal 2-0 Burnley

45+2: Alexandre Lacazette

The Gunners add a deserved second goal at the end of the half. Alex Iwobi lays the ball to Hector Bellerin who makes a break for the byline, he gets there and pulls a chipped pass back to Lacazette who stabs a volley in at the near post. Nice finish.

Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool had the larger share of the chances in the early stages of the match but Chelsea held firm. Sadio Mane had the pick of the chances and forced a couple of decent stops from Thibaut Courtois but there was nothing he couldn't deal with.

Against the run of play, Chelsea got forward and Victor Moses' cross to the front post was headed in by Olivier Giroud to give Chelsea the lead.

From then, Chelsea have looked fairly comfortable and have limited Liverpool's attacks, including Mohamed Salah who was booked for diving.

Arsenal 2-0 Burnley

Arsene Wenger's Emirates farewell party got off to a good start when Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang put Arsenal into the lead after linking well with Alexandre Lacazette, which will please whoever succeeds the Frenchman.

The Gunners doubled their advantage and Lacazette scored one of his own right before half time when he volleyed Hector Bellerin's cross at the front post.

Sean Dyche made it clear that Burnley are not here to make up the numbers but that has been the case in the first 45 minutes. The visitors have failed to have a single shot, and have had to deal with Ashley Barnes being forced off with a shoulder injury.

Callum Chambers and Konstantinos Mavropanos, could we have found Arsenal's future defensive duo? They have certainly looked very good together this afternoon.

Back underway

The second half has kicked off at Stamford Bridge and the Emirates. We'll bring you all the live updates from both games.

Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

47: Chelsea have started the half strongly and go close through Victor Moses.

Tenacious play on the left from Eden Hazard leaves space for Moses on the right, who cuts  a shot across goal after receiving the ball from Cesc Fabregas' pass, but fires wide.

Arsenal 2-0 Burnley

47: Almost 3-0.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's runs with pace and power down the left wing and cuts a cross back to Jack Wilshere. From the penalty spot, Wilshere curls an effort just over. The midfielder looked to use the pace on the ball and angle it into the top corner but the direction was a little bit off.
