Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Champions League finalists Liverpool turn their attentions to domestic matters this afternoon as they travel to Chelsea in an attempt to secure their place in Europe’s top competition for another season.

A win for Chelsea will see them draw level on points with the Reds going into the final two games of the season, and they will back themselves to hunt Jurgen Klopp’s side down with their not-so-little distraction in the form of Real Madrid in Kiev.

Mohamed Salah is gunning for a record goal tally in a Premier League season having already scored 31, but is Chelsea’s defence up to the challenge?

How good has Arsene Wenger's last signing been?

Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

31: Sadio Mane is looking the danger man.

Mane has a shot palmed by Thibaut Courtois into the path of Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian holds the ball up on the right of the box then squares it across to Mane who takes a touch then shoots at Courtois from the penalty spot but the goalkeeper was well placed to get his body behind the strike and save.

Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

Olivier Giroud!

This goal could be huge for Chelsea's charge on the top four.

Against the run of play, Victor Moses gets forward and stands up a cross to the front post. There with every intention of beating Virgil Van Dijk is Olivier Giroud who generates power with a header and flicks the ball into the far corner. The Frenchman sprints to the bench and celebrates with David Luiz, much to Jurgen Klopp's annoyance.

Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool

35: Almost 2-0.

Cesc Fabregas drifts in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold then fires a low ball to the back post. Whether it's a cross of shot is unclear but either way it almost ends up in the back of the net. Liverpool are lucky nobody in blue was on hand to tap that in.

To start or bench?

Jack Watson6 May 2018 17:07

Chelsea 1-0

39: Mohamed Salah goes into the book for a blatent dive on the edge of the box. He's a great player and there's absolutely no need for that.

Chelsea break and Nathaniel Clyne goes in late on Marcos Alonso and also receives a card.

Jack Watson6 May 2018 17:10

Arsenal 1-0 Burnley

43: Henrik Mkhitaryan receives a one-two from Alexandre Lacazette and fires a shot from the edge of the box. His low effort takes a touch off James Tarkowski after Nick Pope has dived but the goalkeeper reacts well by throwing an arm up to prevent the ball going in.
