From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium in New Year’s Day’s second London derby knowing that victory will leapfrog them above Manchester City into third.

The Gunners ended their run of back-to-back defeats to Everton and Manchester City last time out by beating West Brom 1-0 on Boxing Day.

Palace are on a terrible run of form with the draw against Watford last time out their first point in six games, having lost all five of their previous six.

New Year’s Eve Premier League results:

Burnley 4-1 Sunderland

Chelsea 4-2 Stoke

Leicester City 1-0 West Ham

Manchester United 2-1 Middlesbrough

Southampton 1-2 West Brom

Swansea 0-3 Bournemouth

Liverpool 1-0 Manchester City

43 mins: Spurs are so dominant it's untrue and Vicarage Road is very, very quiet. Watford are playing like a relegation side here.

HALF-TIME

Spurs in total control, led by the irrepressible Harry Kane, who has scored twice with two excellent finishes. Alli's third just before half-time has surely killed off any thoughts of a Watford comeback.

KICK-OFF

Spurs get us going again

GOAL - Alli again

That really is game over and it's another disaster for Watford. Kane picks out Alli inside the box and he has far too much time and space to poke the ball past Gomes. Tottenham's fourth comes 58 seconds into the second half. Kane and Alli are now both on hat-tricks.

50 mins: That sums up Watford's day. Guedioura attempts to cross into the box and manages only to thump the ball straight out of play. Watford would probably take the full-time whistle right now. They must endure another 40 minutes.

52 mins: Son shoots wide for Spurs. Plenty more goals in the offing for the men in white here, you feel.
