Manchester United v Liverpool LIVE: Result and final score after Diaz and Salah rip through shambolic hosts
Manchester United slumped to rivals Liverpool as Erik ten Hag lost a second Premier League game in a row
Luis Diaz scored twice and Mohamed Salah added a third as Liverpool ripped through Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Arne Slot kept up his perfect start to life in charge of Liverpool as his visiting side easily swept aside their hosts. By contrast, Erik ten Hag’s side showed many of the same shambolic signs of last season, with Casemiro at fault for the first two goals and hauled off at half-time.
It was another damaging day for the home side after a late defeat to Brighton last week, with Ten Hag booed as he made second half substitutions in a bid to spark a comeback. After Trent Alexander-Arnold had a goal chalked off for offside inside the first ten minutes, Diaz twice converted Salah deliveries as Liverpool pounced on two poor errors from the vastly experienced Casemiro.
Salah then popped up with a goal of his own, striking after Kobbie Mainoo had been knocked off the ball by Alexis Mac Allister. Liverpool are three wins from three heading into the international break and yet to concede a Premier League goal under their new boss; Manchester United, by contrast, again look to be plagued with problems.

Toby Collyer’s first couple of touches are tidy enough. Digo Dalot is now tucking in to add an extra body to midfield, with Collyer then pushing out to fill a bit of space on the left-hand side.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 49 minutes
Erik ten Hag shakes his head as he, Ruud van Nistelrooy and the rest of the Manchester United staff consider their options if Mazraoui can’t continue. It’s a head injury, and it seems like the doctors are suggesting to Mazraoui that he should come off, which the defender isn’t taking brilliantly.
It appears he has has got his way, though, with no-one readied as the right-back is guided towards the touchline. He’ll be back on shortly.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 47 minutes
Another worry for Manchester United as Noussair Mazraoui takes a rather nasty blow. He’s down and being attended to by a couple of medics.
Second half...
An early change from Erik ten Hag, and a bit of a statement: Casemiro is hooked, replaced by young Toby Collyer.
What a moment to make your Manchester United debut. Wow.
HT: Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool
Erik ten Hag hurries towards the tunnel, knowing something will have to change for his team. After a lively opening, Liverpool have seized control, striking twice after Casemiro errors as Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz connected sweetly. If not for an offside Salah’s touch in the first ten minutes, it would have been three, Trent Alexander-Arnold denied after a VAR check.
All grimly familiar for Manchester United.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 45 + 5 minutes
A bright final moment of the half from Manchester United as Kobbie Mainoo spins elegantly and then sends Bruno Fernandes scampering forwards. Joshua Zirkzee returns the ball to his captain, but the half time whistle blows as Virgil van Dijk gently eases the midfielder towards both floor and sideline.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 45 + 4 minutes
Two passes that the respective right-backs would like another go at: Noussair Mazraoui’s attempted volleyed switch is about 20 yards short and 15 yards left of the intended destination, but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s forward hoist after collecting is equally misdirected.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 45 + 1 minutes
Kobbie Mainoo fouls Ryan Gravenberch twice in 60 seconds, escaping further punishment from Anthony Taylor the first time but, understandably, not the second.
Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool, 45 minutes
Erik ten Hag wears a face of thunder in his technical area. Into five additional minutes at the end of the half.
