Follow live coverage as Manchester City face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League today.
Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.
Erling Haaland has started the campaign in outrageous form after signing from Borussia Dortmund and newly promoted Forest will be hard-pressed to stop him from adding to his tally tonight.
Forest themselves have made 18 transfers on the incoming side to entirely restructure the squad and give themselves the best chance of survival, but this will be about the most difficult fixture they face all season long.
We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:
Erling Haaland scores another hat-trick as Man City crush Nottingham Forest
Are we the farmers’ league? It’s a fair question to ask, certainly if any concerns over whether Erling Haaland would adapt to life in the Premier League were considered fair just a few weeks ago.
Some questioned whether he would suit Manchester City’s style of play. Some wondered if he would have to pay ‘the Bundesliga tax’. Some, more reasonably, asked if he might be rested for this first midweek outing of many, given his less than ideal injury record.
But after scoring his second hat-trick in the space of a week, taking just 38 minutes to tear newly-promoted Nottingham Forest apart, it is the poor defenders that have to face him every week between now and May who are probably in need of a good lie down.
