Follow live reaction from the Champions League after Manchester City cruised to an away victory at Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

City, who are again favourites to win the Champions League title, made a perfect start in Portugal as Riyad Mahrez steered the Premier League side ahead after eight minutes.

The goal was given after a lengthy VAR check, with the opener being initially disallowed due to an offside in the build-up, but it was finally awarded to give Mahrez a ninth goal in as  many games.

City doubled their lead on 17 minutes as Bernardo Silva guided a stunning half-volley off the underside of the crossbar from a corner to put the visitors in full control of the tie.

Phil Foden put City three up on 32 minutes as the visitors continued to dominate, with Bernardo adding City’s fourth shortly before half-time.

Bernardo had a header disallowed for offside after the break as he was denied a hat-trick, but Raheem Sterling added their fifth with a sublime shot into the top corner.

Yellow card - Sporting Lisbon 0-5 Man City (Gundogan 74’)

Here they come again...

If City get another goal it will be the biggest away win in Champions League history. And I’m not going against them.

They continue to press with Sterling looking deadly whenever he gets the ball.

The pundits suggest City are winding down the clock by retaining possession but it seems as though they are waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

De Bruyne almost fed Sterling for his brace but Sporting do enough to repel the attack. City now make more changes. Rodri off for Fernandinho.

Gundogan then plants his studs into the opposition which sees a free kick given.

70’ - Sporting Lisbon 0-5 Man City

I’m running out of ways to describe City’s dominance.

No matter what Sporting do, City come out the victor. A race for the ball? City’s possession. Ball goes out of play? City’s throw in.

The hosts continue to attempt to build but the visitors easily snuff out the danger.

And now I’ve said that I’m guessing Sporting will score just to show me up.

Yellow card - Sporting Lisbon 0-5 Man City (Nunes, 66’)

Nunes has been shown a yellow for a challenge on Zinchenko and then a kick to Rodri.

It gifted the ball back to City when Sporting were in a promising area.

64’ - Sporting Lisbon 0-5 Man City

City have made their first changes with Gundogan and Zinchenko on for Foden and Stones.

Sporting get a free kick from a Sterling challenge. Porro took the kick with Dias not getting the ball away cleanly. The ball bounced around but Sporting couldn’t get a shot away.

And City again race off to try and score their sixth! Zinchenko’s attempt is blocked, City are not letting up.

GOAL! Sporting Lisbon 0-5 Man City (Sterling, 59)

Wow! What a strike from Raheem Sterling - his 150th goal for City.

It comes just a minute after Sterling had a chance but couldn’t quite get his head to a Mahrez cross. He wasn’t going to miss twice and he has thumped it in from outside the box.

It’s even more painful as Sporting just had an opportunity at the other end.

A loose pass from Stones in Sporting’s half could have seen them capitalise. But a delay on shooting gave City enough time to get bodies around the ball to wrestle back possession.

Chances like that are far and few between against City and they can’t afford to keep throwing them away.

Particularly when City hit back.

55’ - Sporting Lisbon 0-4 Man City

Sterling was muscled off the ball as City look to rain goals gown on Sporting. But the hosts are doing well to stop the threat for now.

But it didn’t last long as Mahrez was challenged just outside the box for a City free kick.

De Bruyne took the kick and the ball bounced around with nothing to come of it.

Well, we thought that was a Silva hat-trick but he was ruled offside.

De Bruyne had put in a great cross but Silva misjudged his run.

Sporting celebrated that as though they had scored one themselves.

Something I forgot to mention just now, there were no changes at half-time for either side.

Sporting have strung possession together in the opening moments of the second 45 but City’s midfield have done well to keep them out of their own half for the majority.

But it didn’t last long with a questionable foul from City giving them the ball which they are retaining for now.

A goal incoming? Not just yet as Silva gifts the ball away for a goal kick.

We are back underway in Portugal!

Sporting aren’t likely to get a foothold in this match but they do need to not let it run away from them.

A goal or two back would set them up nicely for their match in Manchester in the second leg.

But let another goal in and don’t get one back, they may as well save themselves the plane fare.

Half-time: Sporting Lisbon 0-4 Manchester City

I have a fun fact (don’t you just love them?!). That was the first time City have scored four first half goals in their Champions League history.

We’re expecting more but I don’t think it will be the worst defeat in competition’s history.

That was a 12-1 loss (on aggregate) with Bayern Munich the victors in that one in 2009. The losers? You guessed it, Sporting Lisbon.
