Liverpool moved three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City as they defeated West Ham thanks to Sadio Mane’s first-half goal. Mohamed Salah had an early chance to score after quick thinking from Trent Alexander-Arnold but was denied by Lukasz Fabianski. The Liverpool opener came as Alexander-Arnold fired a ball across the face and Mane was alive in the box to beat Fabianski to the ball and convert from close range.

West Ham, who were without England international Declan Rice, had their chances and could have found themselves level if not far some excellent defending from Alexander-Arnold to chase back and clear Pablo Fornals’ chip from underneath his own crossbar. Liverpool improved after half-time but couldn’t add a second goal that would have sealed three points, as West Ham came back into it. Manuel Lanzini and Michael Antonio had further opportunities for West Ham but Liverpool held on to extend their winning run.

It puts the pressure back on Manchester City ahead of tomorrow’s Manchester derby at the Etihad, as Liverpool turn their attention to the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Inter Milan. Follow reaction to Liverpool vs West Ham below, following the conclusion of this afternoon’s 3pm fixtures:

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

51 mins: West Ham have a problem and it’s bad news as Jarrod Bowen can’t continue. It looks like the forward has hurt his ankle, potentially as he shot at goal and came under a challenge from Robertson.

Bowen limps off and that is a cruel blow, as it means he is unlikely to face Sevilla in the Europa League this week. Bowen was also tipped for an England call-up later this month and an injury could put that in doubt.

Benrahma is his replacement.

49 mins: Nice play from Liverpool creates some space for Robertson down the left. Dawson slices clear before Henderson sets up Alexander-Arnold, who tries to get over the volley but can’t trouble Fabianski.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

47 mins: Mistake by Van Dijk and a chance for West Ham! A loose header back towards Alisson plays in Bowen! Robertson chases back and slides in as Bowen shaped to shoot and the forward sliced his shot wide.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

It was 10 shots each in the first half at Anfield. Under Jurgen Klopp, no one was managed that against Liverpool until today.

Kick-off coming up shortly.

HALF-TIME! Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

It’s a good game and West Ham have done well at Anfield. Sadio Mane’s goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fired ball across the face is the difference but Alisson has saved shots from Antonio and Fornals while Alexander-Arnold has had to clear off the line.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

44 mins: Liverpool are queueing up on the edge of the box as Salah looks to find a yard and shoot at goal. His first effort is blocked before it falls back to him and he sends the volley into the stands.

There will be one minute added on.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

43 mins: Bowen finds a yard of space and is able to poke a ball through to Antonio, who holds his run and gets ahead of Van Dijk. Antonio slashes wide under pressure from Diaz, who was making the recovering run.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

38 min: What a clearance from Alexander-Arnold! Fornals may have been offside as Liverpool tried to play a high line, but it left Fornals bearing down on goal. He went for the chip but Alexander-Arnold raced back to hack it away! Alisson then had to make a save as Liverpool scrambled it clear.

Fornals was onside, too, after timing his run to beat the Liverpool line.

Great defending from both ends, from Alexander-Arnold and Cresswell.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

36 mins: It’s almost two but West Ham scramble clear! It’s a lovely move from Liverpool, worked from left to right via Fabinho and into Alexander-Arnold’s feet in space. He fires it across and Diaz’s shot it cleared by Cresswell off the line!
