It was a first half that Liverpool certainly had the better of, accumulating 1.24 xG (expected goals) to Brighton's 0.17, but the Seagulls got into some really threatening positions too, and looked potent on the counter. You'd expect the hosts to be the side pressing after the break, but don't rule out De Zerbi's men snatching the three points themselves.

The whistle blows to bring an intriguing first half to an end with the scoreline 1-1 at Anfield between Liverpool and Brighton. It was the visitors who took a shock lead within 87 seconds, as former United man Welbeck blasted a powerful finish past the helpless Kelleher to put the Seagulls ahead. Klopp's men responded, though, and after Salah twice went close, he played a key role in Liverpool's equaliser. The Egypt international nodded a loose Brighton clearance into the box, and after Veltman's skewed clearance fell to Diaz, the winger poked into the back of the net to ensure the Reds are on level terms at the interval.
