From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and more are open for business with the summer transfer window now officially open.

A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's priority list at United with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester's Harry Maguire both options. It won't just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Paul Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature - if he drops his wage demands. Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point. Champions Manchester City are always big players in the market and could go big with the prospect of a potential transfer ban looming.

We'll have all the latest throughout Wednesday for you right here:

Let's start at Manchester United where they are closing in on their first signing of the summer.

After missing out on Borussia Dortund's Jadon Sancho, Swansea's Daniel James emerged as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's top target.

And the Daily Mail report that a £15m offer should be enough to do it with personal terms a formality.

Staying at United and there's worse news in the shape of Aaron Wan Bissaka.

The Daily Mirror report that the Red Devils may be forced to pay as much as £50m for the Crystal Palace star.

Solskjaer sees him as his first-choice and would be willing to offer him first-team football should he make the move.

Petr Cech maintains his "sole focus" is to help Arsenal win the Europa League following a report the goalkeeper was set to return to his former club Chelsea in a sporting director role.

Sky Sports suggested Cech - who joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2002 and went on to win a string of trophies, including four Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League - was set to take up an off-field role at Stamford Bridge.

That could still happen, of course, but Cech is remaining focused on matters on the pitch for now.

Over to Liverpool now and something of a left-field option.

The Reds aren't expected to be big players this summer after a busy offseason last year.

But one man they could apparently be looking at is former German international Max Kruse.

With Daniel Sturridge on his way out Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new striker and according to Sport1 the Werder Bremen star could be the man.

Back to Manchester United where the club are apparently stepping up attempts to keep the wantaway Frenchman.

ESPN report that United are ready to offer Pogba a captaincy role to try and persuade him to stay.

Real Madrid lead the race for his signature with Zinedine Zidane a known admirer.

The managerial merry-go-round is in full swing.

Antonio Conte is the latest to jump aboard with the former Chelsea manager apparently set to become the next boss at Inter Milan, according to the Guardian.

Could another former Chelsea manager join him in Serie A?

There's lots of talk that Maurizio Sarri is the No 1 target for champions Juve. Hmmm.

Ben Burrows22 May 2019 08:27

Tottenham are keen on adding some help for Harry Kane up top this offseason.

According to the Daily Star that man is Celta Vigo's Maxi Gomez.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan international has a £43m release clause in his contract.

Manchester City have seen an opening offer for Tanguy Ndombele rejected by Lyon.

That's according to Le10 Sport.

The midfielder has shone in Ligue 1 and is one of a number of targets for City this summer.

The champions are looking for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho at the base of their midfield and the 22-year-old, who is also wanted by PSG, Juve and Inter, fits the bill.

He'll cost more than £43m though, it appears.

To Arsenal where a new goalkeeper is on the menu.

With Petr Cech walking off into the sunset - and quite probably to Chelsea - at the end of the season the Gunners need a new back-up for Bernd Leno.

Bild report that Germany U21 goalkeeper Markus Schubert, who plays for Dynamo Dresden, is a target and could move to the Emirates on a free transfer.
