It won't just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Paul Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature - if he drops his wage demands. Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point. Gennaro Gattuso's future remains in doubt at AC Milan as the club fight for a top four place and Champions League football.
Milan icon Paolo Maldini, who is on the club's board, has said his friendship with his former team-mate will not factor into the decision.
“I have to do my job and evaluate Gattuso, we’re not teammates anymore,” he told DAZN.
“You must have respect for the people you are working with. We are both here to help make this cu;b work in the best way it possibly can. Our views can be different, but our friendship helps us to overcome our differences.
“However, I will have to evaluate the job he has done in a cold and detached manner. We have different roles at the club, and we’re not teammates anymore."
Arsenal's Raul Sanllehi has discussed the departure of Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer to Juventus and the club's thought process.
"We have to be responsible in how we manage the club. One of the key things is to keep rationality in the salary balance of the team," he said.
"Because of our circumstances, because of not renewing on time, we were in a situation where Aaron had incredible offers, building up on the salary. He was really keen on staying with us."
A big day for Borussia Dortmund so far.
Here's Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc on the signing of Belgium midfielder Thorgan Hazard: "He is an experienced Bundesliga player and Belgium international who can help us with his speed and finishing. He has continuously displayed his quality in the past years."
And here's Germany's winger Julian Brandt, who is on the verge of completing a deal to Dortmund too. "I am a person who sometimes decides things on instinct. For me this feeling is important and I have a very good feeling about Borussia Dortmund. I want to further develop here."
Money well spent?
In manager merry-go-round news, Marseille coach Rudi Garcia has decided to leave the Ligue 1 club at the end of the season.
Frenchman Garcia, 55, who took Marseille to a Europa League final last term, has struggled to deliver results this season and they stand sixth in Ligue 1 after missing a European spot.
"I've decided to leave. I proposed this solution to my president (Jacques-Henri Eyraud), who accepted it," Garcia, who joined the club in Oct. 2016 from AS Roma, told a news conference.
"If I only listened to my determination and my ego, I would stay but if I listen to my commonsense and my reason, I have to stop. Why? Because I believe enormously in this project.
"In two and a half years, I was part of this project and, for the sake of it, I think it's better that I leave now. It has been a great pleasure to coach OM."
