From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Follow all the action as Sheffield United welcome Newcastle to Bramall Lane in the Premier League this evening.

Chris Wilder’s beleaguered side finally secured their first victory this season against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend and the Blades will be desperate to kickstart what would by now be a miraculous escape from relegation. United have taken just two points from their opening 17 matches, an astonishingly low total, particularly after their high-flying exploits last season. To pick up points, their priority must be to drastically improve their output up front, with just eight goals scored in the league all season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are attempting to escape a negative spiral of their own, having gone seven games without a victory in all competitions. Frustrations continue to grow over Steve Bruce’s cautious tactics, but the manager has promised his side will offer more in the way of attacking adventure tonight. Despite being chalked off as another loss, the Magpies were bitterly unlucky against Arsenal in the FA Cup last time out. Andy Carroll spurned two magnificent chances in normal time before the Gunners went on to snatch victory in extra-time. Follow all the action live below:

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (32’)

Burnley will now have a free kick for the Shaw challenge, so Brady’s foul and yellow card is reversed. And Shaw avoids a sending off. He’ll be relieved.

VAR is actually being checked for a possible red card from Shaw’s tackle, which happened moments before Brady brought down Cavani.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (29’)

Burnley aren’t happy as Shaw goes into a heavy tackle on Gudmundsson. Play carries on, and a long ball up to Cavani almost catches out the home side’s defence. The Uruguayan looks to be racing clear on goal, but he’s taken out by Brady just outside the box. It’s a yellow card, although VAR is checking whether it’s worthy of a red.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (27’)

United are forced into some defending as Burnley win a corner, which is half-cleared but then repeatedly sent back into the box. The visitors stand firm.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (25’)

United go close. Matic plays a pass into the feet of Martial, who turns and drives at Lowton. The Frenchman takes his shot early, trying to guide the ball towards the far corner. But it flies past the diving Pope and beyond the post.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (22’)

Close! United give the ball away in their own half and Burnley attack swiftly. The ball is played up to Barnes, who lays it into the path of Wood. He gets a shot off on his left foot, but a deflection off Bailly takes it looping just over the bar, with De Gea beaten.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (20’)

Martial goes for the spectacular, meeting a clever Fernandes cross with an overhead kick. It’s well struck, but Lowton gets across to block.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (17’)

Pope is called into action for the first time. Shaw crosses from the left and Fernandes meets it on the edge of the box, trying to guide a shot into the corner. It lacks the accuracy to trouble the goalkeeper.

BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED (16’)

Fernandes whips a free kick into the Burnley box and Tarkowski gets an important touch to take it away from the waiting Cavani. Still no real glimpse of goal for the visitors.
