Chris Wilder’s beleaguered side finally secured their first victory this season against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend and the Blades will be desperate to kickstart what would by now be a miraculous escape from relegation. United have taken just two points from their opening 17 matches, an astonishingly low total, particularly after their high-flying exploits last season. To pick up points, their priority must be to drastically improve their output up front, with just eight goals scored in the league all season.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are attempting to escape a negative spiral of their own, having gone seven games without a victory in all competitions. Frustrations continue to grow over Steve Bruce’s cautious tactics, but the manager has promised his side will offer more in the way of attacking adventure tonight. Despite being chalked off as another loss, the Magpies were bitterly unlucky against Arsenal in the FA Cup last time out. Andy Carroll spurned two magnificent chances in normal time before the Gunners went on to snatch victory in extra-time. Follow all the action live below:
HALF-TIME: BURNLEY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED
It’s level at the break. Burnley will be the happier of the teams, having restricted their in-form visitors to relatively few chances and caused problems with their physicality in the final third. Both sides could have been reduced to ten men in one of the strangest VAR incidents of the season, while Maguire had a goal slightly contentiously ruled out. All to play for after the break.

Good save! United work the ball patiently on the edge of the Burnley box, until Martial opts to speed things up. He gets the ball out of his feet and curls a shot towards the top left corner. Pope gets across quickly to tip it away.

Wood thinks he’s clean through on goal as Maguire goes to ground and loses possession in the process. The United man was tripped by Barnes, though, and a free kick is given, just before De Gea saves Wood’s low shot.

Burnley win a free kick, which is sent into the box by Brady. Maguire heads clear, and when the ball comes back in there are some feint appeals for a handball from Wan-Bissaka. Kevin Friend isn’t interested.

Fernandes lifts a diagonal ball up to Pogba, whose header picks out Cavani. He tries an acrobatic shot, which smacks into the face of Mee. It’s a brave block from the Burnley defender.

Maguire has the ball in the net, but it’s not going to count! After a United corner is half-cleared, Shaw lifts a cross to the back post and Maguire attacks it, powering a header past Pope from a tight angle. But he’s penalised for a slight push on Pieters.
