Manchester United ended Liverpool's 100 percent start to the Premier League season -- and their 17 match winning streak -- with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But there was disappointment for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side who were five minutes away from a win before Liverpool substitute Adam Lallana grabbed an equaliser for the league leaders to cancel out Marcus Rashford's 36th minute opener.

United are now unbeaten in their last seven home games against Liverpool, whose lead over second-placed Manchester City is cut to six points.

Rashford scored after turning home a superb low cross from Dan James after the speedy Welshman had broken down the right flank.

The goal was subject to a video review and allowed to stand despite Liverpool claims that Victor Lindelof had fouled Divock Origi at the start of the move.

Liverpool thought they had got level, two minutes before the interval, when Sadio Mane outfought Lindelof and poked home but the VAR review showed the Senegalese forward had handled the ball.

But Juergen Klopp's side, who had struggled to find openings, finally broke through in the 85th minute when Lallana slotted home Andy Robertson's low cross.

The news is far more positive for Liverpool in the goalkeeper department. Alisson Becker is set to return from injury and should replace Adrian.

Joel Matip is also expected to be restored to the starting XI having recovered from a calf injury. But there is no Mohamed Salah, who picked up a knock against Leicester before the international break.

Odds

Manchester United 9/2

Draw 3/1

Liverpool 4/6

Prediction

Liverpool should have too much for an out of form, depleted United side, but it’s unlikely to be the easy victory some expect.

Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool

How to watch

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports’ Premier League and Main Event channels.

Sky Sports subscribers can stream the match online via SkyGo and the SkyGo app.

Jurgen Klopp has never won at Old Trafford since becoming the Liverpool manager. If the Reds were to emerge victorious today not only would he break that duck but he would equal a Liverpool record of 18 league wins in a row.

Lots to play for then.

Team news

The big news for Manchester United is that David De Gea is passed fit to play and he starts in goal.

For Liverpool Alisson Becker returns for his first game since picking up an injury against Norwich in the first weekend of the season.

Mo Salah will not feature at all as he picked up an injury against Leicester and isn't included in the Liverpool squad.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka returns for Manchester United after almost a month out through injury. David De Gea is also fit to start after picking up a groin injury on duty with Spain.

Juan Mata drops to the bench with Victor Lindelof replacing him in the starting XI. Anthony Martial has been out since August but he makes the bench today.

Liverpool's number one goalkeeper Alisson returns from injury as does Joel Matip but Mo Salah misses out with an ankle injury.

Divock Origi comes in for Salah with Jordan Henderson replacing James Milner in midfield.

Do not underestimate the importance of today's game for Manchester United. They have only lost to Liverpool once in the last 10 league games between the two sides.

Last season's 3-1 defeat at Anfield. Another loss today would leave United one point above the relegation zone.

After the Anfield defeat last season, the then United manager Jose Mourinho was sacked two days later...

... could history repeat itself with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

The teams have come out onto the pitch for the warm ups. The anticipation for this match is reaching fever pitch.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last six home games against Liverpool including five league matches, winning three and drawing two in the Premier League.

There have been nine goals scored in the last five Premier League meetings, with three of those games finishing in draws.

The most recent game in February finished 0-0 at Old Trafford, though Liverpool did win the return fixture 3-1 in December.

Some good news at last for Man Utd:

It would take a brave man to bet against Liverpool winning this afternoon, they have eight wins from eight games.

But in a fixture with as much history as this one anything can happen:
