Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow all the action from the FA Cup’s fourth round ties this afternoon.

Six fixtures get underway at 3pm, with Championship leaders Norwich City travelling to Barnsley. Brighton are hoping to avoid the same fate as West Brom when they welcome Blackpool to the Amex, with the Seasiders having produced one of the shocks of the third round.

Sheffield United are looking to keep their momentum alive after this competition brought their first win of the season against Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Meanwhile, West Ham are in flying form and won’t want to risk any negative drop when they take on Doncaster. All-Championship ties between Millwall and Bristol City and Nottingham Forest’s trip to Swansea complete the mid-afternoon ties. Follow all the action live below:

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

90 mins: Three minutes of added time to play. Can Southampton hold on to their slender lead?

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

87 mins: Shane Long is on for Danny Ings and he carries the ball into the box. He comes together with Holding and Long goes down looking for a penalty that he doesn’t get. Southampton do win a corner though that they try and keep in the corner.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

84 mins: Arsenal wins a free kick on the right edge of the Southampton penalty area. Pepe and Willian are over the dead ball. It’s Pepe who takes it and he curls the ball up and over the goal.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

81 mins: Off the line! Almost an equaliser for the Gunnners as they play Pepe into the box. He takes it to the left but is charged down by Forster in goal. The ball rebounds to Nketiah, I think, and his shot is cleared off the line by James Ward-Prowse.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

78 mins: Dan N’Lundulu comes on for Che Adams as Southampton make their first change. These last 15 minutes or so are going to be tough going for the Saints.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

75 mins: Cedric and Pepe combine to work the ball into the box but Southampton are very compact. They’re defending very deep now with Che Adams the only man forward. Another cross comes into the back and Danny Ings boots it away.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

72 mins: Alexandre Lacazette comes on for Arsenal replacing Hector Bellerin. It’s an attacking change from Mikel Arteta. Cedric looks like he’s moved over to right-back with Bukayo Saka at left-back.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

69 mins: A cross comes in from the right and it bounces off Kyle Walker-Peters, falls for Eddie Nketiah in the box but his strike is blocked.

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

66 mins: Save! Good play from Arsenal on the left wing as Pepe slots a lovely ball into the box for Eddie Nketiah. He hits it first time and Forster has to stick out his left leg and poke the ball wide of the far post.

Michael Jones23 January 2021 13:40

Southampton 1 - 0 Arsenal

63 mins: A better period of possession for Arsenal comes to an end as Pepe gives the ball away on the edge of the box. The Gunners are pushing higher up the pitch forcing Southampton to defend deeper. Partey receives the ball outside the box and goes for goal but his effort goes wide.
