Everton host Liverpool in the Merseyside derby looking to snap a 22-game, 10-year winless streak against their local rivals.

They enter the game in fine form, too, four wins from four games and top of the Premier League with their rivals, as defending champions, three points off the pace having been humbled by Aston Villa in a heavy 7-2 defeat before the international break.

Carlo Ancelotti has inspired the Toffees with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez shining so far this term, while Jurgen Klopp will also have the Champions League to consider and a trip to Amsterdam to take on Ajax just three days after this game. Follow all the action, updates, analysis and reaction from Goodison Park below.

The 235th Merseyside derby is set to be a belter after the resurgence of Everton and Liverpool.

Liverpool, the current Premier League champions, are looking to bounce back after their shock 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa last time out, while Everton are seeking to extend their unbeaten run this season to five games.

Tony Evans explores what it means for a city divided by loyalties but united it every other sense:

FERGUSON HAILS ANCELOTTI

"The first thing I noticed when he came in was that he never changed anything. A new, younger manager could have decided to do things (differently) straightaway," Ferguson told the Daily Mail.

"They could have forced their philosophy - I hate that word - or style of play on to the team. Some managers would have just come in and gone... 'Change this. Change that. Change it all.' He never did it. I thought that was class.

"I learnt a lot from that. He's a relaxed kind of guy but, believe me, he's got a bite on him. Carlo has worked his magic. We've all got respect for him for what he has done in the game. But he's hardworking and out on the grass every day."

KLOPP WARY OF EVERTON 10 YEARS AFTER LAST DERBY WIN

Ten years for them, long may it continue from my point but we've never once thought about it. They did some good (transfer) business and Carlo is a sensational manager. It was clear if he has time to build something and resources to build something, that is what he will do. The team look really, really good.

ANCELOTTI: DERBY WILL SHOW HOW GOOD TOFFEES ARE

I think it will be good for us to have this kind of test. They are the best, they were the best last season and one of the best teams in the world, so it's a fantastic challenge. The message for us is they are going to have an exciting game, it's a derby. Be confident and be happy to play this game. I think the feeling in the dressing room is good. We've started really well, we know it will be a fantastic challenge. We are ready for the challenge, knowing it will be the most difficult challenge for us in this moment.
