Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow live updates from Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace look to put a fraught summer behind them against Everton.

Palace sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka but clung on to Wilfried Zaha, who Everton heavily pursued, and the Ivorian winger is on the bench this afternoon.

Everton have bolstered their side with the additions of several players including Alex Iwobi, Moise Kean and Fabian Delph as they aim to challenge the top six. Follow it live:

Prediction...

Everton to have too much for this depleted Palace side. 2-0.

How to watch or stream online...

The game won’t be shown on terresterial TV in the UK but you can follow live updates right here.

25: While Everton are getting a lot of joy in wide areas, this Palace side look incredibly narrow. Everton look very content at the back and are able to commit both full-backs forward as there is not really a threat of Palace exposing them on a counter attack.

Elsewhere, Brighton have taken the lead against Watford. An Abdoulaye Doucoure own goal separates the side at Vicarage Road.

30: Meyer, who has been very quiet all half, links up with Ayew in the penalty area but can't produce anything as Coleman is on-hand to see off any danger.

31: Everton are getting closer and closer to the opener.

There's a scramble in the Palace penalty area as Coleman's effort is saved by Guaita and palmed towards players from both sides. Calvert-Lewin then heads wide from close-range after Everton work the ball back out wide to Bernard.

38: Palace really need this man. He's currently having a wam-up on the side.

39: Meyer is the first player in the book this afternoon.

We did have a brief VAR check on Milivojevic's challenge on Bernard, but there was nothing in it.

41: Palace go close!

Everton are caught napping as Palace take a quick free-kick and work the ball to Meyer. He cuts onto his right foot and lashes an effort at goal, which is deflected over.

Dann heads over the bar from the resulting corner, which is just as well for Everton because Pickford was nowhere.

45: Everton are forced into an early change as Jean-Philippe Gbamin comes on to replace Andre Gomes, who picks up a knock just two minutes before the sides come in for half time.
