The 100th league edition of ‘Der Klassiker’ was over by half-time as Mats Hummels, Robert Lewandowski, Javi Martinez and Serge Gnabry had the hosts 4-0 up at half-time.
Lewandowski then added a fifth in the final minute as Bayern sent out a message about their determination to reclaim the title.
The result puts Bayern, who were nine points adrift in December, top of the table by one point with six games remaining.

57 min: The tempo has slowed a bit with Bayern having little reason to inject any impetus. Coman and Gnabry are roaming into space at will and Delaney clatters through the latter. A sympathetic referee takes pity and leaves his card in his pocket.
61 min: Mario Gotze is finally introduced in place of Dahoud, who will rue the early chance he missed when his shot struck the post after six minutes.
64 min: Dortmund have a shot! Finally they take the time to build a series of passes and it pays dividends as Sancho plays the ball out wide to Piszczek. The veteran defender skips past Coman and picks out Gotze, but Joshua Kimmich is on hand to make the block.
Lewandowski immediately leads the counter and it's Mats Hummels, masquerading as a striker, who's charging into the box, but the Pole can't measure the pass for a certain fifth.
69 min: Even a 4-0 lead to take a firm grip on the title race and a 200th Bundesliga goal isn't enough to soothe the bubbling temper of Lewandowski.
He's being pulled and tugged by Delaney, and reacts by flinging a frustrated elbow. Luckily for him, it whistles through clean air and both players receive a yellow. Any contact and that was a certain red that would see him miss a vital part of the run-in.
74 min: Bayern are waltzing across the pitch as though they're ready to kick and enjoy a stein in the sun. It's a simple stroll now and Gnabry attempts to add his second as he fashions a strike from the edge of the area, despite only having a flicker of space to work with. It sails wide.
77 min: Reus scythes through the back of his former teammate Lewandowski, who hasn't quite cooled down. Alaba has a swing from range but it's nearer the roof of the stadium than the net.
82 min: Dortmund have given up on attempting to score now and are instead looking to steal chunks from their opponents. Another tap to Lewandowski's ankles, a double-tackle on Ribery. If you can't beat them, hack and injure.
85 min: Lewandowski comes close to adding a fifth as Gnabry tears in off the right and cuts it back to the lingering Pole, but Weigl is there to prevent any further embarrassment with a brave block.
