Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Spain, on the other hand, have started 35-year-old Artiz Aduriz. The Atletico Bilbao striker takes the place of the injured Diego Costa, who returned to Chelsea last week. He has 10 goals for Bilbao this season - including five in one match - and scored last week during Spain's 4-0 win over Macedonia.

The rain was coming down hard here at Wembley earlier but what effect will that have on the teams? The ball skidding off the surface will mean England must be more precise with their long balls towards Vardy, but it should suit Spain's passing game beautifully.

Only 30 minutes until kick off now - how will tonight impact on Southgate's chances in taking the England job for his own? Surely a win over the former World and European champions will be enough to persuade the FA?

Not many, if any, have played better in the England shirt this year than Dier...

Spain have retired back to the away changing room after David Silva and co. gave Reina, De Gea and Asenjo a few stingers to keep their hands warm from around the area.

Silva, incidentally, is skippering the visitors tonight in the absence of Sergio Ramos and others.

'Football's Coming Home' now being belted out around Wembley. No update as to when it is coming home yet though. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Here come the teams, England led out by Henderson, Spain by Silva. Anthems to follow...

Jack Austin15 November 2016 19:55

Even the national anthems aren't safe from a succession of dabs on the big screens
