From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England take on Scotland in a competitive international for the first time in 17 years at Wembley on Friday night. Gareth Southgate's side go into this World Cup qualifier on top of Group F with seven points from three games, while Gordon Strachan's men sit 4th on four points. The two teams use the occasion to mark Armistice Day by wearing poppies on black armbands, in defiance of Fifa rules which prohibit political, religious or personal statements.

Vital information…

Kick-off time: 7:45pm, Friday November 11

20 min: Sterling wins another free-kick, more central this time.

Rooney takes, it comes off a Scotsman's head and goes out for a corner.

21 min: The corner's rolled to the edge of the box where Jordan Henderson attempts to dink it back into the area.

The ball rolls up Christophe Berra's arm innocuously. Shouts for a spot-kick but no penalty.

GOAL! ENGLAND 1 SCOTLAND 0 (Sturridge)

Just as Scotland seem to be frustrating England with two deep banks of four, Gareth Southgate's side break through.

The ball rebounds out to the flank where Kyle Walker just about manages to keep it in, before he sends a teasing cross into the box.

Daniel Sturridge gets in front of his marker, flicks on and the ball passes Gordon. England have the lead.

28 min: Two big opportunities for the visitors to level.

The first falls to Grant Hanley, who's presented with a free header from a corner, but his effort flies wide by an embarrassing margin.

Shortly after, a mix-up in England's midfield sees Griffiths get played through but after some hesitation, his shot deflects into Hart's hands.

33 min: Scotland's skipper Fletcher gets another shot away after a delightful dummy on counterpart Rooney, but his effort is held by Hart.

35 min: Loud calls for a penalty after Danny Rose falls in the area under pressure from Robert Snodgrass.

Replays suggest the contact was minimal, at best.

40 min: A slight lull in the action as the wind that briefly blew beneath Scotland's sails after the goal disappears.

Sterling is thrown to the floor once again by a pink shirt. He's taken a battering in this first half.

HALF TIME: ENGLAND 1 SCOTLAND 0

That's the first 45 minutes. Scotland dug in, sat deep but were still undone.

England are good for their lead but with a bit more adventure, their guests could well get back into this.

It's delicately balanced.
