From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gareth Southgate's side go into this World Cup qualifier on top of Group F with seven points from three games, while Gordon Strachan's men sit 4th on four points. The two teams use the occasion to mark Armistice Day by wearing poppies on black armbands, in defiance of Fifa rules which prohibit political, religious or personal statements.
- Gareth Southgate encouraging confidence, not arrogance, ahead of his date with destiny
- 'Freer' Wayne Rooney to be restored to Southgate's starting line-up
- Why Jack Wilshere and Rooney have to start at Wembley, according to Ray Wilkins

Personally, thought the hype about the atmosphere for this match was overblown, but it is crackling away nicely.
The Scotland end has barely stopped booing over the master of ceremonies, whose making no secret of his loyalty to England.
And after a well observed minute's silence for Armistice Day, we're underway!
2 min: First shot of any note falls to the visitors, with skipper Darren Fletcher firing from range after Gary Cahill's header clear.
He doesn't quite get a grip of the effort and Joe Hart easily collects the bouncing ball.
6 min: Free-kick to England out on the right. Wayne Rooney sends a searching ball to the far post where Cahill's on hand for the header.
Craig Gordon, however, is equal to his effort.
8 min: Scotland are in their traditional fuschia pink change strip.
Alongside England's horrendous home number, it's as if this is Mismatched P.E. Kit XI vs A Set of Stabilo Highlighters.
12 min: John Stones is almost robbed of the ball by Leigh Griffiths, then the Manchester City centre-half panics and plays a lazy pass into no man's land.
England pick up the loose ball and escape without being punished.
13 min: Shout for a penalty after Raheem Sterling goes down in the box. Lee Wallace had jumped for a header with him.
Big appeals from the home crowd but to say it would be a soft one is an understatement. Our referee, Cuneyt Cakir, correctly waves play on.
18 min: Hard to pick out any player who's impressed so far. Eric Dier makes a nice dart through the centre of Scotland's midfield, it leads to a free-kick out on the right.
Rooney swings another in but there's no solid connection. Scotland seem comfortable winning aerial duels in their own penalty area.
