Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Newport delivered a huge FA Cup shock at a rocking Rodney Parade to beat Leicester 2-1 and pile the pressure on Foxes manager Claude Puel.

County bridged a gap of 74 places on the league ladder after Jamille Matt's early header was cancelled out eight minutes from time, Rachid Ghezzal's thunderous leveller having seemingly spared the Premier League visitors.

But three minutes later Marc Albrighton handled Vashon Neufville's cross on the corner of the box and Padraig Amond stroked home the resulting penalty.

It was no less than Newport, 12th in Sky Bet League Two and with only one win in all competitions since the end of November, deserved and rekindled memories of their cup heroics from last season.

Elsewhere, Manchester City put seven past Rotherham, Fulham and Sheffield United were stunned by lower-league opposition, and there were dramatic wins for QPR and Millwall. Re-live it all in the live blog below:

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

It's Leicester's turn for a free kick now. Ghezzal lines it up, outside of the box just to the right of goal. Albrighton wants it as well.

Ghezzal takes it and sends it high and wide, resulting in a shake of the head form Albrighton.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Newport give the ball away loosely and Albrighton is away. He makes a decent run down the left and cuts back inside before letting fly. Joe Day has it covered though and makes no mistakes in saving the shot.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Oh what a block!

Leicester come storming down the left before whipping the ball into Okazaki in the box. He shoots and Demetriou gets in front off the ball to deny Leicester an equaliser. Newport then scramble and boot the ball away.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

A good first 45 minutes for Newport. Leicester have been the more dominant side but Newport have made some chances of their own and more importantly, have taken one.

45 minutes to hold on and cause yet another upset on this day of FA Cup third round football.

SECOND HALF: Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Leicester get the match back underway and they have just 45 minutes to rescue something out of this game.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Matt tries to square the ball to the waiting Amond in Leicester's box but gets a deflection. It was a good move from the home side to split open Leicester's defence.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Iheanacho wins the header in Newport's box but it doesn't have much power and loops into the hands of Joe Day.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Albrighton hits the bar with a long ranged effort from the left side of the box. Joe Day was beaten in Newport's goal and Leicester keep getting close to levelling this match.

Newport 1 - 0 Leicester

Albrighton puts the ball into the channel on the right and Demetriou makes a mess of things as he tries to clear the ball. Iheanacho latches onto the chance and hits his shot wide to the left of goal.

Forbes goes off and is replaced by Pipe as Newport attempt to strengthen their defence and hold onto their slender lead.
