Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Newport delivered a huge FA Cup shock at a rocking Rodney Parade to beat Leicester 2-1 and pile the pressure on Foxes manager Claude Puel.

County bridged a gap of 74 places on the league ladder after Jamille Matt's early header was cancelled out eight minutes from time, Rachid Ghezzal's thunderous leveller having seemingly spared the Premier League visitors.

But three minutes later Marc Albrighton handled Vashon Neufville's cross on the corner of the box and Padraig Amond stroked home the resulting penalty.

It was no less than Newport, 12th in Sky Bet League Two and with only one win in all competitions since the end of November, deserved and rekindled memories of their cup heroics from last season.

Elsewhere, Manchester City put seven past Rotherham, Fulham and Sheffield United were stunned by lower-league opposition, and there were dramatic wins for QPR and Millwall. Re-live it all in the live blog below:

QPR 0 - 0 Leeds

It was almost disaster for QPR as Tyler Roberts takes a shot from the edge of the box for Leeds and ball pounds into the left-hand post before rolling across goal hitting the right post and bouncing out.

What a start for the visitors!

Man City 0 - 0 Rotherham

They're not a team to be outdone as Man City find the woodwork as well. Kevin De Bruyne finding Gabriel Jesus on the far post before Jesus' header ricochets off the crossbar.

Doncaster Rovers take the lead at Deepdale!

Sheffield Utd 0 - 0 Barnet

Barnet have scored at Sheffield United but Shaquile Coulthirst's header is ruled out for offside.

It looked to be the right decision but it's an impressive start from the non league side.

Woking 0 - 1 Watford - Hughes

Short corner from Watford. Masina plays it to Hughes in the box and he clinically finishes with a left footed strike.
