Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Happy Sunday and welcome to our live coverage of the FA Cup third round.

Philippe Coutinho and his £142m transfer to Barcelona is the talk of football off the pitch but there's a great happening on it on Sunday with three Premier League sides in action in four more ties.

Saturday saw a shock at Coventry and a surprise at Bournemouth while Manchester City also survived a scare. What will happen next?

We will be across all the thrills, spills, goals and action throughout the afternoon right here.

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen has warned his side against complacency in today's clash with League Two Newport.

“It is a long way to travel for us, but we are ready to go to Newport and progress to the next round," Christiansen told Leeds' official website last week.

“I will make some changes, players who haven’t had the possibility to play so much will have their chance in this game.

“It is also an opportunity for the players to show their worth and this season, when players have been given chances, many have grabbed it and I want the same to happen in this game.

“We cannot go there and underestimate Newport, if we go there with the right attitude, we will take a good result."

Newport and Leeds have only ever played each other once before - and that was earlier this season!

On that occasion Leeds won 5-1 at Elland Road to move into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Pre-match quotes from Newport boss Mike Flynn

On naming the same starting XI that beat Exeter on New Year's Day: "I think the boys deserve their chance today. It was a good performance last week so we're hoping for more of the same today."

On how his team can produce an upset today: "We've got to take our chances and not make any mistakes. They're a very good outfit and it's going to be a tough day but we're ready for it and we're up for it."

Pre-match quotes from Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen

On the wholesale changes he has made to the Leeds team: "I believe in the squad we have. We have more than 20 players to pick from and today there will be 10 changes from last week. I have the confidence that the players should be able to have a good game today."
