Everton vs Aston Villa
Everton were the better team in the first half and did everything but score. Their pressing was too much for Villa to handle as they often won possession in the attacking half and created a decent scoring opportunity. McNeil was heavily influential in the first period, terrorising Cash on the left wing as he sent in nine crosses. Onana came closest to opening the scoring with a header from close range, but Martinez made a good save to keep the scoreline level going into the break. The Toffees started the second half much slower and Villa capitalised on this. Pickford made an incredible save to stop a header from Watkins, but the striker broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot after Gueye fouled McGinn. The hosts pushed for an equaliser but it left them open for a counter-attack in the 81st minute. McGinn assisted Buendia as Villa secured a 2-0 win away from home.
