From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Tottenham returned to Wembley for the first time since their 2-1 loss to Monaco in September, but Mauricio Pochettino's side once again tasted defeat at the national stadium, this time to Bayer Leverkusen.

The pair met two weeks ago in a 0-0 draw but Kevin Kampl's second-half goal put Tottenham's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages in real doubt.

Spurs now sit third in Group E on four points, two points and one place behind Bayer Leverkusen with only the top two teams progressing to the knockout phase.

Monaco top the group with eight points, while CSKA Moscow sit bottom on two.

55 mins: Pochettino was named on the shortlist for manager of the year earlier today - what can he do to turn this game in Tottenham's favour?

60 mins: Great run by Walker, right through the heart of the defence! his cross-shot goes inches wide, but he made up for losing the ball in his own box moments earlier.

61 mins: But right down the other end, Tottenham nearly gift Hernandez a goal! The Mexican has two bites of the cherry but still can't finish as Lloris does well to keep Spurs level.

63 mins: A powerful run from Sissoko but an awful shot at the end of it. He has not played well tonight.

64 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 0 LEVERKUSEN 1 (KAMPL)

This has been coming for a long time. Kampl lays the ball off to Aranguiz whose shot is deflected straight back into the Slovenian's path and he simply slots past Lloris for his first goal of the season. How will Tottenham respond?

Jack Austin2 November 2016 21:08

71 mins: Spurs haven't really responded yet. Pochettino is bringing on Georges-Kevin N'Koudou for Son as he looks to salvage something from this game.

78 mins: Davies is down injured for Spurs after a big block from Hernandez. Walker has had a terrible evening here. He is really not enjoying Leverkusen's high pressing game. The visitors look the more likely to score again here.

81 mins: Big chance for Spurs here. Dele Alli wins a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box...

Jack Austin2 November 2016 21:25

82 mins: Off the crossbar! Dier with a stunning free-kick but it thuds the underside of the bar before being cleared by Leverkusen. Still life in this game yet!

Jack Austin2 November 2016 21:26

89 mins: If it stays like this Spurs can't complain. Leverkusen have hustled them from the first minute to the last. But there are five minutes added time!
