From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first leg at the Stadio Olimpico was a tense affair, until the game burst into life in the last 20 minutes when Italian teenager Nicolo Zaniolo scored a brace before Adrian Lopez pulled one back for Porto.
Both sides suffered weekend defeats domestically and could do with the boost of booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals. Follow it live:

67: Ping!
There goes Draxler's hamstring and Paredes is on in his place. Kehrer is also replaced by Meunier, a move you feel is 66 minutes too late.
70: Last 20 here we go!
The rest of this match will go a long way to defining Solakjaer's time at Manchester United. It'll be a balancing act now to decide when to unleash his team and search for that winning goal.
They'll certainly raise a glass in the Rovers if he can do it.
75: That's a spicy challenge from Paredes on Pereira, who gets a yellow card for his troubles. Actually, it looked like the Manchester United man made that look a lot worse and Thomas Tuchel is making that point to the referee now.
76: Young loses out to Di Maria and calls for handball, but the PSG winger is not hanging around. The ball is played to Mbappe and he uncharacteristically drives the ball out of play. Manchester United need to be careful here.
78: This is better from United as they begin to work the ball forward as a team, passing it with purpose. Meanwhile Chong is warming up on the bench!
Will the Champions League get the barnet it deserves?
79: Alves gets into a central area and almost sets Meunier on his way behind Shaw, but the defender does well to turn the through pass behind for a corner.
Di Maria takes the set-piece and produces an atrocious short corner to sent them miles back.
81: Tahith Chong is on for Pereira. What a moment this could be for the youngster that only made his Manchester United debut against Reading in the FA Cup in Januaray.
83: You still feel that this tie could easily go either way, all it will take is for one goal to shift the balance. PSG are trying their absilute best to keep possession to dent any United momentus but there's moments where sloppy passes can be punished.
84: All kinds of drama and United are inches away from going out!!!
Alves releases Mbappe though on goal and just as he is about to go round De Gea, Smalling and the goalkeeper do enough to put him off. Meunier collects the loose ball and strikes the near post with Dalot on the line!
