Preview
Jose Mourinho decided to rest his star men Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday, in a huge risk that happened to pay off. With a crucial mid-week tie at home to Belgian side Anderlecht lurking and with Zlatan's game-time requiring careful management (he has already appeared 45 times for the club this season), a rest could only be a good thing.
United will be without Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata, who all miss out due to injury. But Wayne Rooney will likely return to the bench, after the striker recovered from an ankle injury. United will be in a jubilant mood following their 2-0 win over Chelsea and we can expect them to come down hard on the Belgian side as seek a spot in the semi-finals.
Anderlecht currently sit top of the Jupiler League and have not lost in their past seven matches. A win over United would give them their first semi-finals in a European competition since 1990. At first glance it looks a tall ask for the Belgian side, who don’t boast the class or big names that United possess, but having forced a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg, the tie remains open.
It’s a big game for…
Luke Shaw. The defender may be given a chance to finally prove himself under Jose Mourinho. He wasn’t in Mourinho’s starting eleven against Chelsea on Sunday and could well be given a chance this evening, Shaw will have a lot of work to do to counter the recent criticism of him by the United boss.
Remember when...
Tomasz Radzinski scored both goals for the Belgians in a famous 2-1 win?
Player to watch…
Marcus Rashford. The young striker may have big shoes to fill next season. It has yet to be decided where Zlatan will be next season and Rashford may be next in line for the throne should the Swede choose not to remain at United.
Rashford had a cracking game against Chelsea where he stunned the Premier League leaders with the opening goal. He is a man in form and will pose a stern test to the Anderlecht defence.

Odds…
Manchester United to win: 11/50
Draw: 5/1
Anderlecht to win: 12/1
18 mins: A worrying sign for United ... Rojo is down holding his knee after colliding with Chipciu. United can ill afford another injured defender.
On the touchline, Blind begins to warm up.
20 mins: After some deep heat and a lot of writhing around, Rojo picks himself up and looks as though he's going to be okay to continue. United quickly win the ball back and stroke it around the middle of the pitch, only for Carrick to cede possession when his long ball to Lingard goes directly out of play.
22 mins: Acheampong gets in behind the United defence and very nearly scores! He beat Rojo to the ball and then knocked it around Bailly, and only a smart stop from Romero denies him. Anderlecht corner.
In attempting to win the ball, Rojo has taken another knock to the knee and has to be stretchered off. That's the end of his evening. A minor disaster for Mourinho.
25 mins: Blind has slotted straight into the centre-back role that Rojo was occupying, Shaw is remaining at left-back for now.
Anderlecht with a chance to enjoy some possession, with Tielemans swinging the ball into the box for their main danger man, Teodorczyk. But he's beaten in the air by Bailly and United clear.
28 mins: Anderlecht win a free-kick right on the very edge of the area. Pogba and Carrick both penalised for hauling down Hanni.
Big test for Romero, this...
29 mins: ... and he passes it comfortably. The talented youngster Youri Tielemans tries to whip it around the wall and into the corner of the net but doesn't get quite enough power on it. His effort is on target but Romero takes three side-steps to his right and catches the ball with ease.
31 mins: That Rojo injury looked nicely, hopefully it's nothing too serious.
Another good chance for United goes begging. Ibrahimovic strides into space down the right and flashes a cross into the box for Lingard, but it falls just behind the winger.
GOAL! Manchester United 1 Anderlecht 1 (Hanni '32)
Anderlecht are level! Tielemans hits the bar from distance, Teodorczyk follows it up and makes a right old mess of the rebound, but Hanni is on hand to win the ball and rifle it beyond Romero.
