Liverpool vs PSG: Champions League as it happened
Roberto Firmino's late goal rewarded a dominant display from Jurgen Klopp's men with a 3-2 victory
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Roberto Firmino struck in injury time as Liverpool beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at Anfield to get their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start.
The Brazilian came off the substitutes' bench to fire low beyond Alphonse Areola after first-half goals from Daniel Sturridge and James Milner had been cancelled out by strikes from Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe either side of the interval.
Liverpool's win sends them to the top of Group C, with a trip to Italy to take on Napoli to come next month.

Where can I watch it?
BT Sport 2 and BT Sport 4K UHD will be providing live coverage of tonight’s game.
86 minutes
And Mohamed Salah leaves the field with Liverpool now perhaps looking for a winner. He hasn't been at his best so far this season, and Xherdan Shaqiri comes on.
Sadio Mane is felled by Marquinhos just outside the box on the left. This is one that would suit Trent Alexander-Arnold and the full-back looks the favourite to take it...
87 minutes
Just clips the wall and Liverpool have a corner.
Whipped in by Shaqiri but easily headed away by PSG, and they look to break...
A crucial block from Virgil Van Djik is all that prevents Julian Draxler from putting the French side ahead. Could go either way, this one.
88 minutes
Teasing ball by Andy Robertson, headed well away from the danger area by Thiago Silva.
89 minutes
Alexander-Arnold's attempted cross is blocked by Juan Bernat. Liverpool throw deep in PSG territory.
Wasted, and a foul by James Milner will allow PSG to settle things down as stoppage time nears.
90 minutes
Three added minutes. Liverpool continue to put good-looking balls into the box but can't find their teammates.
They earn a corner. Two and a half minutes to go. Shaqiri to take...
ROBERTO FIRMINO FINDS THE WINNER!! 3-2 TO LIVERPOOL AND ANFIELD ERUPTS!
Off the bench with the winner! The corner is too deep and Firmino actually heads the ball straight to Kylian Mbappe, but he loses the ball poorly and the ball is worked back to the Brazilian on the right-hand side of the box.
He cuts inside onto his left, chops back onto his right and crisply strikes into the bottom corner to grab home victory for Liverpool.
On comes Fabinho for the final few seconds (Sadio Mane is replaced)...
And the full-time whistle blows. Liverpool beat PSG 3-2 to kick-off their Champions League campaign in ideal fashion.
A huge win for Liverpool, that. They started the game well and took a deserved lead through Daniel Sturridge. James Milner's penalty extended their advantage, but Thomas Meunier's well-taken volley gave PSG hope just before half-time.
The French champions were ineffectual throughout and looked particularly inept in a second half where they had one sole effort on the Liverpool goal. That effort, however, proved telling, Kylian Mbappe capitalising on a Mohamed Salah error to fire home what looked to be a goal that secured PSG an away point.
But Firmino's late winner gave Liverpool all three points.
That is all for us tonight. The Champions League is back with a bang, and I reckon these staggered kick-off times might just stick. Late drama in the early game, late drama in the later game - a whole evening of action-filled football.
Be sure to follow all the fallout with The Independent, particularly with Miguel Delaney and Simon Hughes who witnessed that late drama at Anfield first-hand.
