From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Something old and something new for Chelsea, then, as they do battle in the very first Champions League game at Atletico Madrid’s state-of-the-art Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Providing familiarity, of course, will be Diego Costa, who is expected to bid farewell to his former teammates – and manager – in the tunnel before the match gets under way.
Blues boss Antonio Conte insists he is keen on the reunion and there are no hard feelings towards the player who will pull on an Atletico shirt once again in January.
The niceties finish at the toot of the referee’s whistle, however, with Chelsea looking to build on the 6-0 opening day win over Qarabag and Atletico hoping to improve on their 0-0 draw with Roma.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game:
What time does it start?
The game kicks off at 7.45pm (BST) at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday 27 September.
Where can I watch it?
BT Sport 2 will be broadcasting the game. Alternatively, return to this page for updates from our live blog.
It's a big game for...
Alvaro Morata. In many ways the man brought in to replace Diego Costa for Chelsea. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to life in west London. Can he return to his hometown and put in a big performance against a club he once represented as a boy and one that turned into his bitter rivals while at Real? It would certainly help banish the memories of Diego Costa if he does.
Player to watch…
Filipe Luis. The left-back will be coming up against the club where he spent one relatively unhappy season. Although Chelsea won the league in 2014/15, Luis struggled to nail down a place in the starting line-up with Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred by then manager Jose Mourinho. That was a surprise for many because Luis had excelled the season before when Atletico won La Liga and reached the Champions League final, beating the Blues along the way. He eventually moved back to Atleti and has been a mainstay ever since. He is a man with a point to prove on Wednesday night.

Odds…
Atletico Madrid: 23/20
Draw: 11/5
Chelsea: 14/5
75 mins: Fernando Torres gets his first taste of action with a powerful drive from deep which results in a tame shot which is easily saved.
76 mins: Thomas makes way as Atletico make their final change by introducing Jose Gimenez.
77 mins: Diego Simeone is gesturing to the crowd to get behind his players. Plenty of groans as Antoine Griezmann gives the ball away and not for the first time.
79 mins: Chelsea roll the dice by introducing Michy Batshuayi and Willian who replace Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard. Perhaps Antonio Conte has an eye on Saturday's clash with Manchester City.
84 mins: Tiemoue Bakayoko gets away with a nervous challenge in the box on Fernando Torres. The referee waves away play but I'm filling that under 'seen those given.'
86 mins: Chelsea make their final change and it looks like they'll settle for the point. Andreas Christensen comes on for Cesc Fabregas and David Luiz moves into midfield.
90 mins: Three minutes of added time. Is there to be a winner for either side?
Goal!
Atletico Madrid 1-2 Chelsea
93 mins: Marcos Alonso receives the ball after a string of clinical passes and his low cross finds Michy Batshuayi who taps in the winner and that is full time!
Has everyone caught their breath yet? What a dramatic finish for Chelsea who deserved their late winner which had Diego Costa's head in his hands.
Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata's chemistry was integral to Chelsea's success. They knew where each other were on the pitch at all times and could be a combined force in the Premier League.
Eden Hazard to BT Sport: "We are very happy it was a tough game, we deserved to win. We are first in the group so we have quality in the team. Today was not easy and we are very satisfied.
"Michy scores every time he's on the field, he's a top scorer.
"We are very confident, trust me. We just want to win every game."
