Arsenal 'deserved' to beat Everton - Arteta

Arsenal cruised to victory against Crystal Palace with a 5-1 win at Selhurst Park to keep their chances of winning the Premier League title well and truly alive.

Following their 3-2 loss to the Gunners in the Carabao Cup during the week, Palace started the match in an aggressive and well controlled way but they were undone once again by Gabriel Jesus.

The Arsenal man scored a hat-trick against the Eagles in the league cup and added two more on Saturday evening, either side of Ismaila Sarr’s consolation goal, to give Arsenal complete control of the game.

He could have had a third after heading an effort onto the post but the goal came when Kai Havertz turned in the rebound. Two more were added, by Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice in the second half, to secure a fine victory for the Gunners who put a touch of pressure on their rivals who play tomorrow.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

27 mins: That knock to Saka doesn’t seem massively serious but he knew immediately that he needed to come off.

A long ball from Crystal Palace is recovered by Sarr who then darts to the right and blazes a shot at goal. Gabriel stops it with his head and needs a breather before playing on.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

24 mins: Arsenal have the early lead but they’ve taken a blow. Bukayo Saka went down injured and Mikel Arteta is taking no chances with him.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

21 mins: Chance!

Palace should be level. Arsenal’s defence falls apart and Sarr nicks the ball away from Saliba on the edge of his own box. He lays it across to Mateta who then shoots but gets charged down by Raya.

What a save. What a moment.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

18 mins: Hughes and Mateta combine to get the ball up the pitch before an offload comes to Kamada. He shoots from range and smokes the effor thigh and wide.

David Raya is warned about delaying the restart even though there’s only 18 minutes played in the game.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal (Gabriel Jesus, 15’)

Arsenal score from a corner again!

Gabriel Martinelli whips the set piece into the middle where the ball drops to Thomas Partey after a tussle in the air. Partey lays it off to Gabriel Jesus who places a swerving sige-footed effort into the gap at the near post!

Wonderful finish.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-1 Arsenal (Ismaila Sarr, 11’)

Wow!

Crystal Palace are level thanks to a great finish.

The hosts work the ball over to the left wing quickly before it’s sent into the feet of Ismaila Sarr.

William Saliba drops off the attacker who carries the ball into the box and curls a fine effort around the defender, then the goalkeeper and lands the ball in the far bottom corner.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal (Gabriel Jesus, 6’)

Arsenal take the lead!

It’s that man again, Gabriel Jesus, who netted three times against Palace in the week. Bukayo Saka is fed the ball on the right wing. He dances away from the nearest defender and floats in a cross.

Gabriel leaps to challenge for the ball and keeps it alive before it bobbles into the path of Jesus who turns it home close to the back post!

Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal

3 mins: Myles Lewis-Skelly has pushed up and tucked into the midfield leaving Arsenal with a back-three win in possession. Mikel Arteta obviously wants to overload the midfield and try to control play.

Kick off! Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal get the ball rolling at Selhurst Park and will look to impose themselves on Palace early on. The ball comes back to David Raya who punts it down the left side where Chris Richards and Gabriel Martinelli tussle for control of the ball.

Richards wins and sends it down the line.
