Arsenal 'deserved' to beat Everton - Arteta

Arsenal cruised to victory against Crystal Palace with a 5-1 win at Selhurst Park to keep their chances of winning the Premier League title well and truly alive.

Following their 3-2 loss to the Gunners in the Carabao Cup during the week, Palace started the match in an aggressive and well controlled way but they were undone once again by Gabriel Jesus.

The Arsenal man scored a hat-trick against the Eagles in the league cup and added two more on Saturday evening, either side of Ismaila Sarr’s consolation goal, to give Arsenal complete control of the game.

He could have had a third after heading an effort onto the post but the goal came when Kai Havertz turned in the rebound. Two more were added, by Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice in the second half, to secure a fine victory for the Gunners who put a touch of pressure on their rivals who play tomorrow.

Arsenal managed seven shots with three of them on target and resulting in goals. In comparison Crystal Palace had nine shots with three on target as well.

If the hits can become more clinical then there’s a way back into this match for them.

Half-time! Crystal Palace 1-3 Arsenal

45+5 mins: There goes the whistle.

Arsenal have had a fine first half with three goals thanks to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. Crystal Palace have shown enough quality to keep the Gunners on their toes though and things could get interesting in the second half if the hosts score the next goal.

Crystal Palace 1-3 Arsenal

45+3 mins: David Raya is taking a while to restart the game from a kick off which irritates the Crystal Palace fans once again. There’s no punishment for the Arsenal goalkeeper but if he keeps that up in the second half he’ll get himself a yellow card for sure.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-3 Arsenal (Kai Havertz, 38’)

Three!

Gabriel Martinelli takes the ball to the byline and lifts a cross into the middle of the box. Gabriel Jesus is on hand to win the header and nods it into the far post.

The rebound comes to Kai Havertz to taps it home after making his run from deep. Arsenal have a cushion.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

36 mins: Close!

After a few minutes of absorbing pressure Arsenal release Gabriel Jesus in behind the lines. He’s got a long way to run to get into the box which allows Lacroix to sprint back and perfectly time a tackle which pokes the ball out of play.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

33 mins: Crystal Palace have been very good. They’ve been aggressive and well intentioned with their time in possession. Their press is also solid and causing a few issues for Arsenal’s defence which doesn’t look as solid as usual.

The hosts fling a throw in into the box where it’s deflected out of play by Thomas Partey.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal

30 mins: Will Hughes dances around Jesus on the edge fo the Arsenal box and flicks in a cross. It gets headed away by Saliba, I think, but Palace then sweep it over to the left to Marc Guehi pressing forward.

Guehi swings in another cross but David Raya comes off his line to cling onto the ball.
