Roman Abramovich makes ‘incredibly difficult decision’ to sell Chelsea

Follow live reaction from this afternoon’s Premier League fixtures, after Chelsea swept Burnley aside in the second half to consolidate their place in the top four. Burnley will look back with regret after not taking their early chances but Chelsea were too good in the second half, with the returning Reece James producing an outstanding display on his first start since his injury lay-off. The wing-back fired Chelsea in front shortly after the break, as Thomas Tuchel’s side scored three times in the space of seven minutes.

Kai Havertz added the other two, steering in an excellent header from Christian Pulisic’s cross before tapping in James’ delivery from the right. Pulisic made it four for Chelsea late on to punish Burnley, who remain in the bottom three after suffering back-to-back defeats this week.

Elsewhere, Newcastle took a huge step towards survival after edging Brighton, while Brentford claimed an important win at Norwich to all but condemn Dean Smith’s side to the drop. Philippe Coutinho inspired Aston Villa to thrash Southampton, while Crystal Palace inflicted a third straight defeat for Wolves ahead of Liverpool’s evening clash with West Ham at Anfield.

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

A big win for Liverpool. West Ham had their chances but couldn’t them as Liverpool held on for three important points to close the gap to Manchester City. It wasn’t always pretty but they got the job done.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

94 mins: Last chance for West Ham as Cresswell stands over a free kick inside his half... Liverpool clear and Jota carries it forward, before he fires over when going to the corner may have been the better option.

Curtis Jones replaces Diaz for a very late Liverpool change.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

91 mins: Mane and Robertson link up down the left, leading to a Mane shot that is blocked by Zouma. The Kop wants a penalty for handball but the appeals are waved away.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

90 mins: Milner replaces Keita for Liverpool’s second sub. There will be five minutes of time added on, most of that from Bowen’s injury.

It is nervy in Anfield.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

88 mins: Robertson clears at the front post before Alisson punches away Cresswell’s second ball - it leads to a chance to break for Liverpool as Jota carries and Mane plays the return ball into space. Jota had both Mane and Diaz in the middle but he couldn’t squeeze the ball through.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

87 mins: Robertson loses control of the ball as he looked to cross and West Ham are able to get down to the other end of the pitch in a swift move. It leads to a corner...

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

83 mins: Alisson plays the ball straight into danger as Antonio looked to close him down, but West Ham can’t take advantage as a cross from the left evades everyone. Poor from Alisson, you have to say, and another chance for West Ham.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

80 mins: BIG CHANCE! Noble plays Antonio through on goal and the West Ham striker has the whole half to run into with Liverpool caught out! Antonio chops inside Robertson but Keita is able to get back and make the tackle as he looked to shoot! Liverpool are living dangerously here and West Ham have had enough chances to win the game.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham

77 mins: Brilliant from Diaz, who controls the ball in the box and is able to find the gap to pull the back to Salah - but his touch needed to be sharper and West Ham clear.

And that is Salah’s last action - he is replaced by Jota.
