Manchester City are reigning champions after a dominant 2020/21 season and Pep Guardiola's side are favourites to win it again boasting as they do one of the best squads in Europe.
European champions Chelsea have proven they have what it takes to dethrone City, however, having done it in last season's Champions League final and will be hoping to add a domestic title to the one won in Porto.
Liverpool were winners back in 2020 ending a 30-year wait for league glory and Jurgen Klopp is sure to have them back challenging again at the sharp end this season too while Manchester United will be looking to be back in the title picture with Cristiano Ronaldo returning to his former club in the summer.
It's not all about the action at the top though with Norwich, Watford and Brentford promoted to the top tier for 2020/21 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

Chelsea see another corner cleared by the first man, and Brentford break on the counter again. Roerslev makes a good run down the right and wins a corner off Rudiger, but it comes to nothing.

Henry loses out to Azpilicueta, and he threads a good throughball down the right for Werner to chase. He has Havertz up in support with him but goes for goal instead, and his shot is blocked by Ajer.

Tuchel looked a frustrated figure on the touchline in the first half, and he'll be expecting much better when they come back out. If they can make a quicker start this time, they could cause Brentford some problems. The visitors couldn't keep up their quick start to the game, but Frank will be pleased with what he's seen so far and will be hoping for more of the same.

It's goalless at the break between Chelsea and Brentford. The visitors made a bright start to the game, and Toney sent two efforts over the bar, either side of forcing Mendy into a good low save. It took Chelsea a while to get going, but they came closer as the half went on. Ziyech saw an effort brilliantly tipped over by Raya before the keeper denied Alonso from a late corner.

Ziyech whips a corner into the box and Raya does well to push it away as Havertz flies forward in an attempt to head it. Alonso heads it back towards goal, and though Raya flaps at it, he gets enough on it to help it onto the roof of his net.

Brentford just can't get out of their own half at the moment, and they put themselves under more pressure after a loose pass from Mbuemo. Havertz finds space down the left, but he can't pick out a team-mate with his cross.
