Bayern Munich 1-1 Man City (1-4 agg): Erling Haaland missed a penalty before later scoring as Pep Guardiola’s men set up a semi-final against Real Madrid
Erling Haaland scored as Manchester City advanced to a Champions League semi-final rematch with Real Madrid after a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday.
The Norwegian superstar missed a first-half penalty but atoned as City achieved smooth progress with a 4-1 win on aggregate by scoring the opening goal on a counter-attack in the 57th minute, just after Bayern missed a good chance at the other end.
Bayern’s lack of confidence after losing the first leg 3-0 in Manchester showed as they failed to take advantage of numerous chances. Joshua Kimmich scored the Bavarian powerhouses’ consolation from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after City defender Manuel Akanji was penalised for handball but it was immaterial to the outcome.

60 mins: Another opportunity for Man City as they win a free kick on the left edge of Bayern’s box. Kevin De Bruyne curls a shot towards the back post but there’s a defender waiting to head it clear.

57 mins: From one end to the other! Joshua Kimmich squares a pass across the City six-yard box and Ederson goes to ground to push the ball over to John Stones.
Stones belts it long and Erling Haaland wins the aerial ball nodding it down to Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne then guides it back to Haaland who sits down Dayot Upamecano before lifting his shot past Yann Sommer to secure the tie for Man City!

54 mins: Thomas Tuchel is really riled up as his frustration continues to grow. Even his staff are having a pop at the officials and one of the assistants is shown a yellow card.
Chance! City sweep forward on the counter-attack. De Bruyne’s initial ball comes over to Grealish who dinks a pass into the box. Haaland sprints onto it then shoots but hits a low effort straight into the arms of Yann Sommer.

51 mins: Kevin De Bruyne is fouled over on City’s right wing. He then lifts the set piece all the way over to Manuel Akanji who offloads the ball to Jack Grealish.
Grealish has nowhere to go with it though and is forced to retreat into his own half.

48 mins: Bernardo Silva loses the ball to Jamal Musiala who dribbles across the pitch before passing the ball back to Kingsley Coman.
Coman’s flick into the box is nodded behind by Jack Grealish and Leroy Sane’s corner ball isn’t good enough to trouble the City defenders.

The players head back out for the second half. Neither manager has made a change at the break. Pep Guardiola looks quite tired, his team was put through the wringer in the first half but they’re still three goals to the good.
City kick off the next 45 minutes knowing a clean sheet puts them through to the semi-finals.

Kinglsey Coman was brilliant in the first half, by far Bayern’s biggest threat. Combined with Leroy Sane he forced John Stones out of midfield and back into defence to make City more solid.
That in turn hindered how effective they were in transition. Bayern need a goal though. The longer this game goes without one the more it plays into City’s hands.

Instead he offloads the ball to Eric Choupo-Moting who backheels it at goal from inside the six-yard box. City’s defenders scramble and block the shot before the rebound comes to Kinglsey Coman.
Coman shoots too but his effort hits Choupo-Moting and bounces clear.
