The home side took the lead after 18 minutes through John McGinn, who was on the spot to convert Leon Bailey's cross. Douglas Luiz made it two from the penalty spot after Ollie Watkins was fouled in the box by Jordan Pickford. Moussa Diaby was then denied by Pickford to prevent Villa notching a third. Matters got worse for Everton when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was forced off with a head injury after colliding with Emiliano Martinez. Sean Dyche and his team face a huge challenge to get back into the contest.
