The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Everton also had a setback on the opening day of the season at Goodison Park as Fulham left Merseyside with all three points. Sean Dyche knows that his team are under pressure to deliver results to avoid being dragged into yet another relegation battle, having barely survived the past two seasons. The form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be crucial as the Toffees have not been able to bolster their ranks with too many new recruits during the summer.

Villa endured an opening day to forget on the road against Newcastle United, suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Magpies at St James' Park in the midst of losing Tyrone Mings to a serious knee injury. Unai Emery now has to galvanise his team to kickstart their season on home soil. Moussa Diaby made an impressive start to his Villa career with a fine strike on a tough afternoon for his team. Emery will be looking for consistency from Diaby and the rest of his players in the final third to get off the mark.
