From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England have already crashed out of the Cricket World Cup, which was sealed by the 33-run defeat to Australia, but restored a small amount of pride with a 160-run win over the Netherlands.
That will hopefully have restored some pride to a side that hit rock bottom during the defeat to Pat Cummins’ side, and it has kept them in the hunt for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, with only the top eight qualifying for that event.
The victory over the Netherlands has moved England from the foot of the table into seventh place.
There will be plenty of time after the tournament for a full analysis of how England’s title defence could go so disastrously wrong with very few warning signs before the squad departed for India, but for now there is a chance to qualify for the next ICC event, with a game against Pakistan to come on 11 November.

Netherlands 156-5 (32) Edwards 36, Nidamanuru 28, Ali 0-35 (6)
Nidamanuru has hit Ali over the top for a big six and that was smart batting, he has picked where the fielder was up in the ring and hit it expertly.
The 50 partnership is up.
Eight runs from Ali’s over.
Netherlands 148-5 (31) Edwards 35 Nidamanuru, 20, Atkinson 0-41 (7)
Atkinson will be back to bowl his seventh. He doesn’t quite get it rights and Edwards has two boundaries from it.
England will be hoping to secure another breakthrough soon, and try and wrap up victory to give their net run rate as big a boost as possible.
Netherlands 137-5 (29) Edwards 25, Nidamanuru 20, Atkinson 0-33 (6)
Nidamanuru has started his account in flying fashion here, moving rapidly on to 19 from 12 with a big six off Atkinson.
The rest of the over is kept tight, but there were still 8 runs from it.
Netherlands 118-5 (27) Edwards 21, Nidamanuru 6, Atkinson 0-25 (5)
Willey has dropped Nidamanuru at mid on, it was a difficult catch over the shoulder but he was disappointed to have dropped that and denied Atkinson his first wicket of the game.
Wicket! de Leede out for 10! - Netherlands 104-5
Rashid strikes! It’s quicker and flatter and skids onto the stumps of the boot of de Leede.
The batter might consider himself unlucky, and it was a touch of luck but Rashid has his first wicket in the match.
Netherlands 99-4 (25) Edwards 13, de Leede 6, Willey 2-19 (7)
De Leede has dispatched Willey for four in his first over since the wicket, with Adil Rashid bowling at the other end.
But there is not much on offer from the rest of the over, and the Netherlands run rate is just trickling upwards.
Wicket! Engelbrecht out for 33! Netherlands 90-4
Willey has just come back into the attack and he strikes immediately!
Engelbrecht tries to hit over the top but plays it straight to Woakes at mid on, and England are rattling through them now.
Netherlands 89-3 (22) Edwards 10, Engelbrecht 33, Rashid 0-7 (1)
Edwards has gone over the top here and picked out a boundary from Adil Rashid.
Rashid has bowled well this tournament, and has bowled his first over here, not perfect, but a solid start and England are still on top here.
Netherlands 82-3 (21) Edwards 4, Engelbrecht 32, Woakes 1-19 (7)
Engelbrecht has smashed Woakes four. The runs are not coming freely, but the ball is still moving around and England will be trying to look after it as best they can.
