England have cruised to an eight-wickets victory over Bangladesh to continue their perfect start at the T20 World Cup. After Eoin Morgan’s side crushed West Indies in their opening match with a blistering display of bowling which saw them all out for 55, England were again impressive as they restricted Bangladesh to 124.

Moeen Ali removed Bangladesh’s openers with back-to-back deliveries, while Liam Livingstone took out the experienced pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mahmudullah just as they were beginning to build momentum. Chris Woakes yielded just 12 runs before Tymal Mills took consecutive wickets at the end of the innings to take his total to three.

Given a target of 125, Jason Roy smashed 61 runs from 38 balls alongside Jos Buttler (18) and Dawid Malan (28 not out) to secure a comfortable victory that sees England top Group 1 ahead of Saturday’s clash against Australia. Follow all the reaction and latest updates from the T20 World Cup below.

1st over: England 7-0 (Roy 6, Buttler 1)

Bangladesh send out left-arm spinner Shakib for the first ball, which Jason Roy swats away for an opening four.

England vs Bangladesh: England set 125 to win

Chris Woakes: “As a unit we bowled really well today, so I’m happy with that. “It was a great catch from Adil and it changes T20 games, it was a big moment for us.”

England vs Bangladesh: England set 125 to win

Bangladesh may have added some runs with a late flurry, but the damage was done early in the innings as England made it through their powerplay to the cost of just 27 runs for three wickets. The wicket of Shakib, taken thanks to a wonderful catch from Rashid, was key, as was Livingstone’s removal of Mushfiqur just as he was building momentum. The disastrous run-out of Afif topped off a poor batting display for Bangladesh, even if Nasum was able to add to quick sixes late on.

WICKET! Mustafizur b Mills (Bangladesh 124-9)

And Mills takes back-to-back wickets to finish the innings! This time he delivered a fine Yorker to dismiss Mustafizur for a 0. The incoming Bangladesh batsman was nowhere near it.

WICKET! Nurul c Buttler b Mills (Bangladesh 124-8)

England take an eighth wicket with the penultimate ball of the innings following a successful challenge. Mills takes his second of the match after Nurul touched his bouncer with the top of his gloves, and Buttler made the catch in behind.

19th over: Bangladesh 119-7 (Nasum 19, Nurul 13)

Finally, Bangladesh get their first six of the match! Nasum swings hard on Rashid’s spin and sends the ball over the boundary to the off-side.

And another! In the same move, Nasum scoops another ball to the off-side, before he completes a fine innings with a clipped four to backward square leg.

That’s more like it from Bangladesh, even though it’s likely to be too little, too late.

18th over: Bangladesh 102-7 (Nasum 3, Nurul 12)

Woakes had another chance for a catch - it would have been a spectacular one - but he wasn’t able to get his palm to the ground to pick up Nasum’s skier. Bangladesh tick over the 100-mark but are still struggling to improve their run rate.

WICKET! Mahedi c Woakes b Mills (Bangladesh 98-7)

But that’s a tame way for Mahedi’s brief spurt to come to an end. He looks to scoop a delivery from Mills over his shoulder but the shot is weak and lands in Woakes’ hands at fine leg.

17th over: Bangladesh 98-6 (Mahedi 11, Nurul 11)

Mahedi is giving this a go. He steps into Rashid’s spin and drives a shot to the off-side for his second boundary in quick succession.

16th over: Bangladesh 90-6 (Mahedi 4, Nurul 9)

Roy makes a diving stop as Mills keeps Bangladesh to just a couple of singles with his first few balls, but his final delivery of the over is clipped on the outside edge by Mahedi. Morgan dives as he tries to keep it in play but it goes for four. It had been a long time since Bangladesh had last managed to find the boundary and that is just their eighth of the match.
